UNITED STATES PATENT f EEICE..
JAMES BARRETT, ISAAC STEVENS, AND ROBERT SUTHERLAND, OF MELBOURNE, VICTORIA.
sPROcKET-CHMN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 601,333, dated March 29, 1898.
I Application tied August 17,1897. seria No. 648,580. (No model.)
To all whom ama/y con/cern:
Be it known that we, JAMES BARRETT, ISAAC STEVENS, and ROBERT SUTHEELAND, subjects of the Queen of Great Britain, and residents of- Melbourne,in the Colony of Victoria, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sprocket-Chains; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view showing the chain geared with two sprocket-wheels. Fig. 2 is a similar View, on an enlarged scale, of the chain; andv Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken through the ends of the upper arms and rollers.
In said drawings, A represents an ordinary sprocket-wheel.
B represents a disk or hub, and C C represent lateral flanges fixed to the sides of the hub B by rivets' c, though of course the flanges may be formed integral with the hub B, if desired. These angesC C are formed with a series of radial arms D D, arranged in pairs, and the radial edges of each pair of arms are turnedoutward to form bearingfaces d d.
The chain consists of a series of links 'W and blocks X. To the rivets of the chain lever-arms R R are fixed, the outer ends of these arms being connected in pairs by the bolts S S, which have sleeves mounted on their outer ends to engage the bearing-faces d d of the arms D D of the sprocket-wheel.
T T- represent diagonal braces, which eX- tend from the bolt S on one pair of leverarms tothe bolt U on the neXt succeeding pair to impart the requisite rigidity to the lever-arms.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A sprocket-chain consisting of blocks and links pivoted together, arms arranged in pairs and secured to the pivots of said links, transverse toes at the upper ends of said arms, said toes consisting of a block connecting the arms of each pair, and provided with rollers on their free ends, and rods pivoted to the upper end of one set of arms and to the in termediate portion of the adjacent set, substantially as set forth. u
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES BARRETT. ISAAC STEVENS. ROBERT STHERLAND.
