IMPROV'ED FIXTURE.
J. w. TAYLOR, JR., or DIIBIIwII-, IOWA.
Laws Patat: No. 60,087, dated November 27,1866.
v SPECIFICATION. T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it known that I, J. W. TAYLOR, jr., of Dubuque, in the eountyof Dubuque, and State of Iowa, have invented -a new and improved WindowShade Fixture; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof:
My invention consistsin the employment of va perforated wheel secured to the end of the shaft of a shade for windows in combination with a lever which is operated by means of 'a cord passing `through an eye provided at the lower end of the lever.` p l l 4 1 To enable others skilled in the art `to make and use my invention, I will proceed to Adeseribeits construction and operation, reference being Ahad to the acompanyin g drawings, rand to the letters of referen ce marked thereon, forming a part of this specification, in which- A Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window with my improved shade fixture attached.
Figure`2 isa side elevation of the same. v Y
Letters of like 'name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
I f A represents a window of commoneonstruction, with my improved shade fixture attached. Bis the shade,.of any ordinary material used for shades to windows, secured to the upper` roller D, around which the shade rolls when the shaded is drawn up. C is the lower roller or bar secured across the lower .end of the shade for the purpose of keeping it straight and in order. At the ends of the roller D are provided journals, which run iu` bearingsv E E, which are screwed into the walls or casings of the windows, 'or may be secured thereto by any, other well-known means. At one end of the shaft or roller is provided a pulley, a, around which the cord F passes and works for the purpose'of elevating and lowering the shade B, together with the barC. Upon the outer end of the shaft or roller D, next to the bearing, is secured a perforatedwheel e. The perforations in the said wheel e are made in the side ofV the wheel near its periphery. H is a lever pivotedat u to a standard bar, I, that extends upward from the end of the bearing'E. To this level`- H is secured a -lug or pin z', located in the lever H at such a point as to `correspond with the perforations in the wheel so as to enter one of the perforations for the purpose of keeping the roll/er in a stationary position, Iand to prevent the shade from running down when rolled up. In the lower end of the lever H is an eye 'or hole, S, through which the cord F passes for the purpose of operating the shade. When it is Vdesired to raise the shade', the lower end of the cord-is drawn out at an angle from the window and down at` the same time, which draws the lug or pin z' ont from. perforation inthe wheel e, and raises the curtain o'r shade to any desired point, wheu'thecord is released by thej nweight. of'the tassel J, brings the leverH into such a position as to engage'the lug or pin z' in `the-perforations in the wheel, `which holds. the shade at the point desired. The shade is lowered in the same manner as it is raised, except the cord is not drawn down, but is slacked, so thatthe shade is allowed to run down. v
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new., and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The` perforated wheel e attached to the roller of a window shade, in combination with the lever H, when constructed and arranged substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
