ANGLE-FORMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 600,699, dated March 15, 189B.
Application filed September 9, 1897. Serial No. 651,068. (No model.)
To LZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES WEBER, acitizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in An gle-Formers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in rolls for bending metal and the like, and has for its object the provision of novel means whereby the ordinary bending-rolls may be used for various purposes.
The invention has for its further object to provide rolls of the abovedescribed class with attachments whereby angle-iron, bariron, and T-iron may be easily and conveniently formed.
The invention further aims to construct rolls that may be easily adjusted to form various sizes and thicknesses of metal, and, furthermore, to providemechanism that will be strong, durable, and comparatively inexpensive.
With the above and other objects in view the invention finally consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more particularly described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specificatiomfand wherein like letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views,in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pair of rolls equipped with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on the line X X of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a similar View showing a modification of my invention. Figs. 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are enlarged detail views of the collar.
In the drawings, A indicates the housing, in which the rolls B and B are mounted. The said housing A is provided with guides O C to guide the bearing-blocks inwhich the roll B is journaled when the same is being vertically adjusted.
The reference-letter D indicates an adjusting-screw which may be operated by the lever d.
E represents the collar, which is formed of two sections e and e', the section e being provided with a recess e2, said recess being adapted to receive the tenons e3 of the section e', an aperture e4 being provided for the purpose of securing both sections together. The collar is further provided with apertures c5, eX- tending radially through the same. Said apertures are adapted to receive adj listing-bolts F, which are countersunk in the periphery of the collar, as shown in Fig. Z of the drawings. The surface of the rolls are formed with indentations g to receive the end of the adjusting-bolt F.
Referring to Fig. l of the drawings, the lower set of rolls is provided with collars, and in Fig. 3 of the drawings I have shown the mechanism reversed-wiz., the upper rolls provided with collars and the lower set of rolls having a smooth surface.
In order to roll T-iron, this maybe accomplished in the same manner without changing the position of the collars on the rolls, as
shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. i
When the collars are removed from the rolls, the latter may be used as ordinary bending-rolls in the well-known manner.
It will'be seen that the collars may be easily applied and removed when desired and that when said collar is in position it will be iirmly and rigidly secured to the roll, and any lateral displacement will be impossible.
Particular attention is directed to the fact that various changes may be made throughout the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention. l
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
