SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 600,547, dated March 15, 1898. Application filed February 20, 1897. Serial No. 624,361. (No model.)

Be it known that I, ANTON MAzzANovIoH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Powder-Guns, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to improvements in powder-guns for distributing pulverized insectexterminating compounds, the object thereof being to supply a device of this character adapted for spreading and distributing the insect-powder over large areas, while at the same time small crevices can be readily reached and filled.
The device is simple in construction, inexpensive, and durable, and it can be successfully used by the most inexperienced and unskilful person.
The invention will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the annexed claim.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of my improved device, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation thereof. I
In the practice of my invention I provide a tube A, having a slightly-contracted tubular projection A extended therefrom. This said projection engages with a nozzle B, which has a tapering outlet 1) leading therefrom. This said outlet portion may be straight, as illustrated by Fig. l of the drawings, or it may be extended in a curved direction, as shown by Fig. 2 of the drawings, whereby downwardlyprojected apertures may be reached without tilting the main portion of the device.
Leading into the tube A, through an extension a, is a hopper C. This said hopper has a screw-cap O in engagement with its upper or inlet portion, and to maintain a tight joint between the hopper and the cap a rubber disk 0 is placed between the head of the cap and the edge of the hopper. This said hopper has a small outlet 0, whereby the powder adapted to be contained therein will feed slowly into the tube A.
Located within the rear end of the tube A is a partition (1, having an opening a leading therethrough. This said partition acts as a seat for a flap-valve D, adapted for admitting air to the tube A.
The tube A is further provided with a flange crgwhich engages with a flexible tube 6, leading from a bulb E, which said bulb is adapted for forcing air into the tube A to act as a means for discharging the powder therefrom.
In the operation of this device the cap 0 is removed from the hopper and a quantity of powder is poured therein. The cap is then tightly readjusted, so as to prevent accidental discharge of the powder at the juncture of the hopper and the cap. Then to spread the powder it is simply necessary for an operator to squeeze the bulb E, whereby a column of air is forced past the valve D against the descending particles of powder from the hopper 0, and a continuous squeezing of the bulb will cause the powder to be discharged from the end of the nozzle B with considerable force, whereby an operator can readily spread a coating of powder over any desired body.
I do not confine myself to the specific details of mere mechanical construction as herein described and shown, as it is obvious that under the scope of my invention I am entitled to slight structural variations.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a powder-gun for distributing pulverized insect-exterminating compounds, comprising a longitudinal tube carrying a hopper leading thereto and having an apertured partition therein in which is mounted a flap-valve, a flexible bulb connected to one end of the tube, an adjustable nozzle connected to the other, said nozzle being curved and having its end portion tapered, substantially as shown and described.
