p Be itknown that I, WILLIAM BOWLING, of

the city of Troy, Grant county, State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Puzzles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to puzzles; and it con-` ro sists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter shown, described, and claimed.

Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved game or puzzle. Fig. 2 is `a cross-sectional View taken approximately on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.

Referring. by numerals to the accompanying drawings, 1 indicates a plate or disk, the

same beingV preferably circular in plan view l:zo andv constructed with a vertically-arranged 3o face of the plate 1 and in the exact center thereof is a raised block 6, in the form of a live-cornered star. Located directly in front of each point of this star is a segmental rib or iiange 7, between the meeting ends of which 3 5 are left slight spaces, such as 9 indicates triangular blocks that extend outwardly away from each one -of the segmental iianges or ribs 7, and when so positioned said triangular blocks 9 form a vepointed star. left between the inner corners of these triangular blocks 9, said spaces 10 being in direct alinement with the space 8 left between the ends of the segmental ribs or iianges 7. Formed integral with the outer points of the blocks 9 are blocks 11, inthe form of iivepointed stars, in the centers of which are formed circular recesses 12. Communicating with said recesses 12 and extending the en- 5o tire length of the blocks 9 are passage-ways 13, the same communicating with the space vrepresent the orbits of said planets.

Slight spaces, lsuch as 10, are Y in which the center star 6 is located, directly opposite the segmental walls or flanges 7. It

is essential that the stars 11 be differently colored or marked. The reason for this differential coloring or marking will be hereinafter made plain.

14 indicates a series of spherical bodies of such a size that they will readily pass through the spaces 8 10 and through the passage-ways 6o 13.- It is essential that there be as many of these spherical bodies 14 as there are stars 1l, and said spherical bodies 14 are differentially colored or indicated to correspond with the dierently colored or indicated stars 11.

Before proceeding with the operation or manipulation of my improved game or puzzle it may be stated that the center star 6 and the circle composed of the segmental ribs or flanges 7 are intended to represent the sun. 7o The spherical bodies 14 represent a series of planets, and the recesses 12 in the stars 11 The spherical bodies 14 are located at random upon the surface of the plate l, and the operator or operators playing the game are required to so manipulate the casing of the game or puzzle as that the spherical bodies 14, representing the planets, will be located in their corresponding recesses 12, represent-l 8o ing the orbits of said planets. Said bodies 14 being spherical, they will easily roll over the surface of the plate 1 and readily pass between the spaces 8 and 10. When each one of the spherical bodies 14 is located in its 85 proper recess 12, the game is played and the puzzle solved. y

By designating the spherical bodies 14 as planets and the center star 6 as the sun the game or puzzle will be found instructive, as 9o well as entertaining, as certain features regarding the planets and sun will be suggested to the mind of the operator.

i The plate 1 and various blocks located thereon may be constructed of wood, metal, or 9 5 papier-mache, or of any suitable material.

I claim- 1. A game or puzzle, comprising a suitable casing, a transparent cover for said casing, a star located upon the surface of and at the 10o center of said casing, segmental ribs or lianges directly opposite the points of said star, triangular blocks located directly in front of said segmental ribs or anges and constructed with passage-ways extending their entire length, blocks in the form of stars located at the points of said triangular blocks and constructed with recesses in their centers communicating with the longitudinal passageways, and a series of spherical bodies adapted to traverse the passage-ways and be located in the recesses, substantially as specified.

2. In a game or puzzle, blocks in the form of a live-pointed star so located as that a space is formed between said blocks, a star located within said space and surrounded by a series of segmental flanges or ribs, a series of blocks in the form of stars located at the points of the first-mentioned blocks and constructed with recesses in their centers that communicate With passage-ways formed in the irst-mentioned blocks, and a series of spherical bodies adapted to pass through the spaces, traverse the longitudinal passageways and be located in the recesses, substantially as specified.

3. A game or puzzle, comprising a suitable casing, a transparent cover for said casing, a star located upon the surface of and in the center of said casing, a series of segmental flanges or ribs surrounding said center star, a series of blocks constructed with longitudinal passage-ways extending outwardly from the ribs or lian ges in the form of a live-pointed star, blocks in the forni of live-pointed stars located on the ends of said first-mentioned blocks and provided with recesses in their centers that communicate with the longitudinal passage-Ways, said last-mentioned blocks being differentially colored or indicated, and a series of differentially-colored spherical bodies that are adapted to be located in the recesses in said differentially-colored blocks, substantially as specified.
