REEL-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 596,799, dated January 4, 1898.

Be it known that I, DANIEL L. ANDREWS, of Webster, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Reeld-lolder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provide a device for attaching reels, such as fishingreels, to rods or poles and to construct the same in a simple, durable, practical, and inexpensive manner.

A further object of the invention is to obtain a more rigid and firm contact between a reel-holder and a rod than has been heretofore obtained and to provide for an adjustment of the reel upon its holder and the adjustment of the holder upon a rod.

Another object of the invention is to so construct the holder that when it is clamped upon a pole the reel will be simultaneously locked in position upon the holder.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

The pole A may be of any desired construction; likewise the reel 13. The holder consists of clamping-bands C and aslide D. Each clamping-band C, as is particularly shown in Fig. 6, is made in two sections 10 and 11. The upper end of each section of a band is provided with a lug 12, and these lugs may be drawn together through the medium of an adjusting-screw 13. the clamp or clip 14:, the said plate 15 terminating at its outer end in a clamp or clip 16, facing the clamp or clip 14: and corresponding thereto in cross-sectional shape. A pin. 17 is secured to the plate 15 and to the overlapping member of the band-section 10, the said band being free to travel in a slot 18, made in the lower portion of the member 11 of the band. Therefore the band is expansible at both its top and at its bottom.

The slide D consists of a plate the upper face whereof is preferably concaved and the lower face convexed, and this slide is made to enter the clamps or clips 14 and 16 of the clamping-bands 0, two of which are ordinarily employed. The reel B is secured, preferably, through the medium of a transverse attaching band or bar 19 to the central portion of the slide D at a point about midway between its ends. 4

In operation the clamping-bands are placed upon the pole and the slide D is entered into the clamps or clips 14 and 16 of the clamp ing-bands. After the bands'have been adjusted on the pole and the slide adjusted with reference to the bands if such adjustment is necessary the screws 13 are tightened or screwed up, closing the bands firmly around the pole. The act of closing the upper ends of the bands serves to draw the clamps or clips 14 and 16 on the bands in direction of each other, thereby causing the slide carried by these clamps or clips to be firmly and securely locked to the bands.

As heretofore stated, the device is exceedingly simp1e,practica1,durable,and economic, it may be quickly and conveniently applied or removed, and the holder may be used in connection with any approved form of reel.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a reel-holder, a supporting-band for a reel, an adj usting device for the band, and a clamp for the band, controlled by the adjusting device, substantially as described.

2, A reel-holder consisting of bands constructed in sections adjustable to and from each other, each section of each band being provided with a clamp near one of its ends and means for adjustment at its opposite end, the said clamp being adapted to support a reel, as and for the purpose specified.

3. A reel-holder consisting of bands, each band consisting of two sections having means of adjustment at one end of each section of said band, said clamps being arranged to draw together when the adjusting portions of the bands are carried in like directions, and a slide for attachment to a reel, supported in the clamps of the said bands, as and for the purpose set forth.

a. A reel-holder consisting of bands, each band comprising adjustably-connected sections, clamps carried by the sections of the bands, and a slide adjustably supported in said clamps, each slide being arranged for attachment to a reel, as and for the purpose specified.

5. A reel-holder consisting of bands, each band being constructed in two sections, the

lower ends of the sections being arranged to overlap, and the overlapping end of one section being provided with a clamp and a slot,

a plate attached to the overlapped member or the band-sections and having a clamp formed thereon, the attaching device between the plate and the clamp-section to which it belongs being arranged to move in said slot, and an adjusting device connecting the sections of each band opposite its overlapped members. as and for the purpose specified.

6. A reel-holder consisting of bands, each band constructed in two sections, the lower ends of the sections being arranged to overlap, and the overlapping end of one section being provided with a clamp or clip and a slot, a plate having a clamp thereon attached to the other overlapping member of the bandsection, the attachment between the plate and sections being arranged to move in the said slots, an adjusting device connecting the sections of each band opposite its overlapped members, a slot fitted for adjustment in the sockets of the said band, and means for attacliing a reel to the slide, as and for the purpose specified.

7. A reel-holder consisting of clampingbands provided with adjustable clamps or tightening devices, and a slide adapted for attachment to a reel adjustably carried bv said clamps, as and for the purpose specified.
