To all whom it may concern:-

Be it known that I, HAZEN H. PERKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kc wanee, in the county of Henry and State of Illinois,have invented a new and useful Husking-Pin, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in husking-pins.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of husking-pins and to provide a simple and comparatively inexpensive one adapted to fit the hand of the operator and capable of ready adjustment to suit the size of the same.

A further object of the invention is to enable the guard-strap, which forms a fingerstall, to be readily applied to and removed from the husking-pin.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a husking-pin constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the guard-strap. Fig. 4; is a detail perspective view of the loop-plate. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the huskingpin, the straps being removed. Fig. 6 is a detail sectional view of the husking-pin, illustrating the manner of attaching the knob to the same.

1 designates a husking-pin constructed of sheet metal and provided with a slightlycurved end 2, which is tapered, as shown.

The body portion of the pin is slightly curved in cross-section and the rear portion 3 is made tubular and receives the shank 4. of a knob 5. The shank 4, which fits within the tubular portion 3, is adapted to be quickly applied to the husking-pin, and while it may be soldered or otherwise fastened within the tubular portion such fastening means, however, are deemed unnecessary. The rear edge of the sheet metal of the husking-pin forms a square shoulder 6, which extends entirely around the shank of the knob 5 and is adapted to be engaged by the ends of an adjusting-strap 8 in the manner hereinafter described.

Instead of making the rear portion of the husking-pin completely tubular it may be constructed only partially so, if desired, the sheet metal being extended around the shank sufficiently to obtain a firm hold on the same.

The husking-pin is provided on its convex face with a clip 9, consisting of atransverselycurved plate secured at its inner or rear end to the pin and having its outer portion olfset from the pin and arranged substantially parallel with the same and adapted to be engaged by a guard-strap 10, which is doubled, as shown, to provide a finger-stall for the reception of the forefinger. The guard-strap 10 has its inner and outer sides slightly tapering and is provided at its bend with a slot 11,

ing-pin, whereby the guard-strap is detachably secured to the latter. The slot 10, which receives the clip, is preferably curved, as shown, and the terminals of the guard-strap are-provided with series of perforations 12, which are adapted to be engaged by a hook or projection 13 of a loop 14, whereby the terminals of the guard-strap are adjustably con. nected to vary the size of the finger-stall or loop.

The loop 14, which is substantially triangular, receives the adj listing-strap, and the hook or projection, which is substantially L-shaped, firmly engages the terminals of the guardstrap, the inner end of the loop being slightly curved inward toward the pin, as shown. The adj listing-strap, which passes loosely through the loop 1 L, is provided at each side with perforations 16 and engages the inner end of the husking-pin, the knob passing through a perforation on each side of the strap. In applying the husking-pin to the hand one end of the strap is first engaged over the knob, and then the other side is drawn taut and is secured in the same manner.

The convex face of the handle portion of the husking-pin is provided with a strip 17 of fastening device 18. The strip 17 is slotted at 19 to receive the clip and is engaged over the same similar to the guard-strap.

The advantages of the invention are as follows: The husking-pin is exceedingly simple and inexpensive in construction. It is strong and durable and is adapted to fit the hand of the wearer, being readily adjustable to suit the size of the same. The guard-strap is detachably secured to the husking-pin and is adj ustably connected with the strap 8, which is readily buttoned over the knob and unbuttoned therefrom. The shank of theknob fits within the tubular portion of the husking-pin and is securely applied to the same without any other fastening means.

Changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Vhat I claim is- 1. The combination with ahusking-pin, of a guard-strap doubled on itself to form a finger-stall and secured at the bend to the husking-pin, the terminals of the guard-strap being adjustably connected, a loop connected with the ends of the guard-strap, and an adjusting-strap passing loosely through the loop and having its terminals connected with the pin, substantially as described.

2. The combination with a husking-pin, of a guard-strap doubled on itself to form afinger-stall and secured at the bend to the husking-pin, said guard-strap being provided at its terminals with perforations, a loop provided with a projection or hook engaging a perforation of each end of the guard-strap and adjustably connecting the same, and a strap passing loosely through the loop and having its terminals connected with the husking-pin, substantially as described.

The combination with ahusking-pin provided at one end With a knob, of a guardstrap doubled to form a finger-stall and secured at its bend to the husking-pin, a loop adjustably connecting the terminals of the guard-strap, and an adj listing-strap passing loosely through the loop and provided at its sides with perforations and adapted to be buttoned over the said knob, substantially as described.

4:- The combination of a husking-pin provided at one side adjacent to its point with a clip disposed longitudinally of the pin, a guard-strap provided with a slot receiving the clip and detachably connected to the husking-pin by the same, and means for connectin g the terminals of the guard-strap with the rear end of the husking-pin substantially as described.

5. The combination of a husking-pin, a clip mounted thereon and consisting of a 1011- gitudinally-disposed plate secured at its in ner end to the pin and having its outer portion oiiset therefrom and disposed substantially parallel with the same, a guard-strap doubled to form a loop or finger-stall and provided at its bend with a slot receiving the said clip, and an adjusting-strap connecting the terminals of the guard-strap with the rear end of the husking-pin, substantially as described.

6. A husking-pin comprisinga sheet-metal body portion having a tubular rear end, and a knob having a shank fitting in the rear end of the body portion of the pin, the rear edge of the body portion forming a shoulder or stop, combined with an adjusting-strap hav ing a perforation to receive the knob and abutting against the said shoulder or stop, substantially as described.
