UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BEVLY A. FISHER, OF HAMILTON, MONTANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO GEORGE D. SIIUPE, OF SAME PLACE.
RElN-GUARD FOR NECK-YOKES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 593,427, dated November 9, 1897.
Application filed July 8, 1897. Serial No. 643,835. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, BEVLY A. FISHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamilton, in the county of Ravalli and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rein 0r Line Guards for Double Teams; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in line-protectors for the breast-yoke of double teams; and the object is to provide a simple and efiective device for preventing the aunoyance of lines or reins catching under the forward end of the tongue where it projects beyond the breast-yoke.
To this end the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the device, aswill be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The figure in the drawing is a perspective View of my improved line guard or protector as it appears applied to the breast-yoke.
1 represents the vehicle-tongue, and 2 the breast-yoke.
The guard or protector proper consists of a curved wire bracket 3, provided with integral eyes 44 at its outer ends, through which the staples 5 5 extend to secure it to the breast-yoke, and from the eyes 4 4: curved arms 6 6 extend part way around the yoke and are secured thereto by the staples 7 7, and from these points said arms extend forwardly and diagonally to form the crossed braces 8 8, the outer ends of which terminate in eyes 9 9, which snugly encompass the curved bracket 3, as shown.
The entire guard or protector is formed of a single piece of stout steel wire, and as it extends over and on each side of the projecting end of the tongue it efiectually prevents the reins or lines from becoming entangled with the tongue and breast-yoke.
Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-
A rein-protector for double teams, comprising the breast-yoke 2, in combination with the curved bracket 3, provided with the eyes 4 4, arms 6 6, and crossed braces 8 S, the outer ends of which encompass said bracket, and the whole made of a single piece of wire and permanently fixed to said yoke, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BEVLY A. FISHER.
