H. WIRTZ. POCKET MATCH BOX.
Patented 0013.26, 1897.
Wrwsses- @Z W/g a v UNiTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HEINRICH WIRTZ, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
POCKET MATCH-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 592,526, dated O t b 26, 1897.
Application filed February 24, 1896. Serial No. 589,562. (No model.) Patented in Germany March 23, 1894, No. 83,471;
in Belguim March 30, 1894, No. 109,261, and April 8, 1895, No. 114,975; in England April 14, 1894, No. 7,489, and in Austria April27, 1894, No.44/1,287,a11d May 4, 1895, No. /1,563.
To all whmn it ntay concern.-
Be it known that I, HEINRICH IVIRTZ, gentleman, residing at 18 YVe'rftstrasse, Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire,have invented new and and useful Improvements in Pocket Match-Boxes, (patented in Germany March 23, 1894, No. 83,471; in Belgium March 30, 1894, No. 109,261, and April 8, 1895, No. 114,975; in England April 14, 1894, No. 7,439, and in Austria April 27, 1894, No. 44/l,237, and May 4, 1895, No. ii /1,563,) of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a pocket match-box in which by means of a paper cartridge a direct ignition of matches by taking out is effected.
On the accompanying drawings the contrivance is represented.
Figure 1 shows a front view, and Fig. 2 a cross-section on lineosa; of Fig. 1, of the pocket match-box. Fig. 3 shows the folded paper cartridge, and Fig. 4 an interior view of the same.
The U -shaped paper cartridge a is formed, as shown, for receiving the matches I), which are inserted after the manner of pins in a paper, Fig. 2. On both ends a. the paper cartridge is coated with an igniting substance. The pasteboard case cl, which, for example, maybe formed as a box provided with a closure, as shown, serves for protecting the paper cartridge with its matches. In this pasteboard case cl the folded paper cartridge a is pasted with its outer ends a, and that in such amanner that the surfaces coated with igniting substance face each other. For preventing the heads of the matches rubbing each other a paper partition e is arranged, which is held in vertical position by means of the paper cartridge a. WV hen the box for igniting the matches I) is pressed together on both sides, withdrawal of the matches by their protruding ends results in immediate ignition by the igniting-surfaces. This construction avoids the necessity of refilling the case, which may be thrown away when the cartridge is empty.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. As an article of manufacture a cartridge for pocket match-boxes, consisting of a U- shaped paper provided with igniting-surfaces at both ends and havingin each side perforations through which the matches are inserted in the cartridge, substantially as set forth.
2. As an article of manufacture a pocket matchbox, composed of a cartridge consistin of a U shaped paper provided with ignitingsurfaces at both ends and havingin each side perforations through which the matches are inserted in the cartridge, a partition in the cartridge, and a pasteboard case to which the outer ends of the cartridge are pasted so that the igniting substances face each other,
substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as
