Description

G. N. BUCK. 'OOMBINBD WAIST, SKIRT, AND BELT HOLDER.
(Np Model.)
No. 592.464. Patented Oct. 26,1897.
Mme
GEORGE N. BUCK, OF MATTOON, ILLINOIS.
COMBINED WAIST, SKIRT, AND BELT HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 592,464, dated October 8 7- Application filed March 29, 1897. Serial No. 629,799. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE N. 131101;, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Mattoon, in the countyof Ooles and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Waist, Skirt, and Belt Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a combined waist, skirt, and belt holder, the purpose of which is to provide a holder adapted to be secured to the belt and when thus secured to hold the skirt against a downward pull, the waist against an upward pull, and the belt against shifting either upward or downward.
To such end the invention consists in certain novel features which will be fully set forth in the preferred form of my invention described below and illustrated in the drawings presented herewith.
The drawings consist of five figures, of which Figure 1 is an elevation of a piece of a belt, showing my invention in its preferred embodiment applied thereto and presenting to view the portion of the device which is ordinarily seen when the belt is worn. Fig. 2 is a similar view, but presents the opposite side of the belt and the portion of the holder in view upon that side. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the holder itself. Fig. iis a front plan of the same in a different adjustment, showing in outlines a belt in position; and Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the holder alone.
As shown in the figures, the holder consists of an upper member A and a lower member B, arranged to slide and be guided one upon the other. The two members are similar in general form, and when secured together one is inverted with respect to the other. The upper member A has at its top a hook a, and the lower member has at its bottom a similar hook I). These hooks may be crowded to gether or spread apart by sliding one member upon the other, and they are designed to embrace between them a belt of any of the ordinary widths, the holder being adjustable to the same by merely opening it to a suificient width and then crowding it together until it closely fits the belt. The inner end of each member is turned away from the belt and provided with a series of teeth a b to engage, respectively, the skirt and waist and prevent either from being pulled out from under the belt.
The manner of connecting the two members I consider to be immaterial to my invention, broadly considered. As here shown, the end of the member B is slotted at b to receive the member A, and the latter is provided with two inturned tongues a a embracing the member A, keeping the two close together and in parallel planes.
In using the holder it is first placed on the inside of the belt and the latter then tightened in position, care being taken that one series of teeth shall engage the skirt and the other the waist.
While the holder is intended for application to a belt, it can also be applied to a corset with the teeth turned outward and the belt used to hold the skirt and waist against the latter.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent" 1. A combined skirt, waist and belt holder having two members sliding one upon the other each member having at one end a hook adapted to embrace one edge of a belt and at the other end a series of teeth adapted to engage either a waist or skirt whereby the engagement of said teeth with the waist or skirt may hold the hooks in place upon the belt; substantially as described.
2. A combined belt, skirt and waist holder consisting of two members, A, B, the member, A, having the hook, at, at one end and the teeth, a, and tongues, 0L2, a at the other, and the member, B, having the hook, I), at one end and the teeth, I), and slot, 13 at the other, the member, A, being arranged in the slot, 19 and the member, B, being embraced between the tongues, a a substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, at Mattoon, Ooles county, and State of Illinois, this 9th day of March, A. D. 1897.
GEO. N. BUCK.
