Be it known that I, DAVID McALLIsTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State lf Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seltzogenes and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has relation to improvements in the construction of seltzogenes or gazogenes for making and dispensing carbonated beverages, and the object is to simplify the construction of the same,

To this end the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

The drawing is a vertical section of a seltzogene embodying my invention.

1 represents the water-receptacle, which is preferably globular in shape and provided with a horizontal base 2 and an externallythreaded cylindrical neck 3.

4: represents a cylindrical metallic sleeve formed with an internal annular flange 5, the interior of said sleeve being threaded above and below the ange 5, as shown.

G represents the gas-generating chamber, which is formed with a cylindrical shank 7, externally threaded to receive the sleeve 4. The upper end of this chamber is provided with an externally-threaded neck 8, to which is removably secured the cap 9. This cap is provided with a central screw-threaded oriiice 10, which receives the threaded nipple 12 of the gooseneck 13, which is provided with an ordinary plug-cock 14. The lower threaded end of the nipple 12 extends below the top of the cap 9 to receive a threaded sleeve 15, the converging lower end of which receives the fiaring end 1t' of a tube 17, which extends downward to a point near the bottom of the receptacle 1.

1S represents a tube encompassing a portion of the upper end' of the tube 17, its I ianged end 19 being supported between the upper face of the neck 3 of the water-receptacle l-f' and the annular lian ge 5 of the sleeve 4.

The receptacle 1 is iirst rilled with water and the sleeve et secured in place, with the tube 1S and gasgenerating chamber adj usted in position to form a gas-tight joint between said receptacle and the gas-chamber. The salts, usually consisting ot' an acid and an alkali, are now thoroughly mixed in powdered form and placed in the gas-chamber 6 on the outside of the tube 18,\which of course must be perfectly dry before the salts are inserted.

The cap, with the gooseneck and tube 17, is then secured in place, and the gazogene is ready for operation, and wheneverv a carbonated beverage is desired the gazogene is tilted so that a portion of the water in the receptacle 1 Hows through the tube 18 into the chamber 6 and mixes with the salts, thereby generating a gas and charging the water in the receptacle 1. Vhen the cock 14 is opened, the charged water is delivered through the gooseneck as desired for use.

The simplicity', convenience, and portability of myimproved gazogene are appa-rent, and the facility with which it can be taken apart and assembled as well as broken parts replaced is such as to commend it to general household use.

In addition to producing a carbonated beverage the various mineral-water salts-such as kissen gen, vichy, the lithias, and the likemay be combined with the water to form an eftervescing mineral water corresponding to the salt employed.

While I prefer to make my improved gaz ogene or seltzogene of transparent glass, it is obvious that colored or'opaque glass, porcelain, earthenware, or block-tin may be used in its construction and the water-receptacle and gas-chamber covered with Wicker or wire work, as is customary in this class of articles.

Although I have specically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without 'departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A portable gazogene, comprising a water- IOO cured to 'the lower end of 1 said nipple by the internallythreaded sleeve 15, substantially as shown and described.
