OLIVER IIULBACK, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
MOLASSES-PITCHER.
SPEGIFICATIN forming part of Letters Patent No. 589,833, dated September 14, 189'?. Application tiled November 10, LSQS Serial No. 611,601. (No model.)
To all whomI t 11m ,'l/ cancel-a:
Be it known that LOLIVER HULBACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul,
Vit appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a novel construction in a molasses or syrup pitcher; and it consists in features of construction hereinby pressure upon the linger-piece 6, and then,
after described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating f this invention, Figure l is a side elevation of a pitch er constructed in accordance Wit-h this invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section oli' the saine. Fig. 3 is a vertical section.
Referring now to said drawings, 1 indicates the top portion of the pitcher, having a handle 2 and niouth 3. The cover 4 of said pitcher is pivoted to the upper end of the saine at one side thereof, so that in opening the cover it slides to one side of theniouth of the pitcher. The outer or free end of the cover e is provided with an overhanging lip 5, which closes over and around the mouth of the pitcher. At the side of the cover and adjacent to its pivotal connection with the pitcher is a ngenpiece 6, extending down along the side of the pitcher and connected by means ofthe spring 7 with the said pitcher, said spring serving to hold the cover in a closed position. The rnouth 3 ofthe pitcher is provided with a roller 8, which fits closely therein andhas one end extending through the sides of the mouth and provided with a inger-piece, by ineans oi' which the roller can be turned. It is designed that the molasses shall pass over this roller, and then, When it is desired to place the pitcher in an upright position, to give a backward turn to this roller, thereby drawing back into the pitcher any molasses 0r syrup that would otherwise drip or run down the outside of the same.
If desired mechanism for rotating the roller rapidly can be employed, which in the instance illustrated consists of a gear-Wheel 9, fastened to the side of the pitcher and intermeshing with a gear-pinion 10 on the end of the roller 8.
Y It will be seen from the foregoing description that when it is desired to use the pitcher a person can very con veniently open the cover after pouring the molasses or syrup and before allowing the cover to close, by giving a few turns to the roller all the dripping or running down Jdie sides of the pitcher Will be avoided.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A pitcher having a rotatable roller situated at the bottoni of the mouth thereof and a gear-Wheel interni eshin g with said roller for rotating'the same, substantially as described.
2. In a pitcher, a cover pivoted to the upper end of the saine and provided at its swinging end with a lip to close the end of the mouth, a depending finger-piece near the pivoted end of said cover which extends downward along the side of the pitcher, and a spring connected with said linger-piece and Withthe pitcher. Y
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscrib- Y ing Witnesses.
OLIVER I'IULBCK.
