Description
(No Model.)
G. W. GEPHART.
GAME BOARD.
Patented Sept. 14, 1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE IV. GEPHART, OF FRANKLIN, OIIIO.
GAME-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 589,825, dated September 14, 1897. Application filed December 19,1896. $erial No. 616,368. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE \V. GEPHART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Franklin, in the county of Warren and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has reference to a novel construction in a game-board; and it consists in the features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a game-board constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
Referring now to said drawings, 1 indicates the game'board or bottom piece, provided with a central chamber 2,that sinks a little below the upper face of the board. The upper face of the board 1 is provided with a plurality of inclined faces 3, that extend from the outer edge of the board to the edge of the chamber 2. The chamber 2 is circular, and in Fig. 1 the form of these inclined faces 3 will be readily seen. They extend to the edge of the chamber about midway between their ends, while toward the end portions they decrease in width, as shown. The chamber 2 is preferably provided with upright side walls and group; but it will be understoochhowever, that this number can be changed, as found convenient or desirable.
As shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the bottom of the chamber 2 slopes gradually from the center to the periphery, so that it is more diflicult to place the ball or marble with which this game is played in the central pocket by rolling than in any of the others. It will be noted, of course, that by suitably filling or covering any of the groups of pockets such groups will be thrown out of play.
Various rules can be made by which this game can be played, and it is played with balls or marbles, the board being placed upon a flat surface and the balls or marbles snapped or rolled up the inclined face and into the chamher.
The object of the game is to direct the balls into certain of the pockets in the chamber, with certain rewards and forfeits for success and failure.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A game-board having a central, circular chamber, a pocket in the center of said chamher, an upright wall surrounding said chamher, the bottom of said chamber slopingfrom the center to the outer edge of the same, and a plurality of inclined faces extending from the outer edge of the board to the outer edge of the chamber, the inner edges of said inclined faces being curved so as to meet the outer edge of the pocket at one point only.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE W. GEPHART. Witnesses:
A. E. AXWAN, CATHERINE RILEY.
