M. M. WILLIAMS.-
' OVEN.
Patented Aug. 24, 1897..
UNITED "STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARTHA M. \VIILLIAMS, OF LA PLATA, MISSOURI.
OVEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 588,624, dated. August 24, 1897.
Application filed November '7, 1896. Serial No. 611,424. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, MARTHA M WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at La Plata, in the county of Macon and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ovens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has reference to a novel construction in an oven-shelf, the object being to provide a device of this character that is inexpensive and durable and can be adjusted to suit different sizes of ovens.
The invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an oven-shelf constructed in accordance with this invention with parts broken away for convenience of illustration. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan. v
Referring now to said drawings, said shelf consists of two members 1 and 2, secured together and adapted to be extended. The said members are provided with suitable legs to elevate the shelf above the bottom of the oven, which in the instance illustrated consist, of flanges 3 upon the sidesof the plate 1 and a leg 4 at one end thereof. The other member 2 is provided with a plurality'of legs 5, one situated at each corner and one at the outer end. The said member 2 is adapted to slide between the flanges 3 of member 1 and is held therein by guides, consisting of lugs 6, fastened to the inner faces of the flanges 3, between which lugs and the lower face of said member the outer edges of the member 2 are situated. It will be noted that the leg 4 at the outer end of the member 1 provides a stop to limit the member 2 when they are in contact.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that a shelf constructed in this manner not only serves to hold the articles to be cooked above the bottom of the oven secure from burning, but can be used in connection with small or large ovens, and, furthermore,
in connection with a large oven this shelf can be so manipulated that it covers only a portion of the bottom thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shelf of the kind specified, consisting of a member 1 having downwardly-projecting side flanges and guidedugs, and a member 2 situated between said flanges and said guidelugs and provided with legs, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
