G. L. ABBOTT.
BOTTLE STO-PPER LOCK.
No. 588,211. Patented Aug. 17,1897;
V UNITED STATES PATENT OFF-ICE.
GEORGE L. ABBOTT, OF OORNIN G, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHARLES F. HQUGHTON, OF SAME PLACE.
BOTTLE-S'TOPPER'LOCK.
SPECIFICATION'forming part'of Letters Patent No. 588,211, dated August 17, 1897. Application filed January 2'7, 1897 Serial No. 620,969. (No model.)
To aZZ- whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE L. ABBOTT, of Corning, county of Steuben, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bottle-Stopper Locks, of which the following'is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an effectual and simple lock or seal for bottlestoppers; and the invention consists in the resents a stopper fitting snugly in the neck and provided with an interior main chamber Z). The neck is formed, preferably at diametrically opposite points,with holes O,which register with corresponding openings D, formed in the wall of the stopper at diametrically op' posite points. A locking pin or bolt E is extended through the holes in the neck andstopper and serves to prevent the stopper from being removed without first removing the bolt. I At one end the bolt is provided with a head 6 and its opposite end is formed with an opening to receive alock'f. Other means for locking the bolt in place may obviously be employed, but I prefer to adopt that shown as being that most convenient where it is necessary to frequently remove the stopper.
In order to prevent the contents of the jar from coming in contact with the locking-bolt in cases like the'present, where the stopper is chambered, I propose to inclose the locking-bolt, which is effected by connecting the openings in the stopper by means of a tube G, having its end seated and firmly secured in the openings. This tube forms in effect a secondary chamber in the stopper independent of the main chamber and extending through the same. In addition to its function in preventing the contents of the jar from coming in contact with the locking-bolt this secondary chamber effectually prevents the contents escaping through the openings in the stopper and the neck to the outside.
Having thus described'my invention, what I claim is- '1. The-combination with a bottle having its neck provided with openings, of a stopper provided with a main chamber and with a secondary chamber extending through the main chamber and registering with the openings in the neck of the bottle and a locking-pin extending through the opening in the neck" and through the secondary chamber in the stopper.
2. Thecombinationwith the bottle having its neck formed with openings, of a stopper provided with a main chamber and with openings, a tube having its ends seated and secured in the openings in the stopper and a locking-bolt extending through the openings in the neck of the bottle and through thetube.
In testimony whereof Ihereunto set my hand, this 25th day'of January, 1897, in the presence of two attesting witnesses.
GEORGE L. ABBOTT.
