Description

(N0 Model.)
J. LITTLBJOHN.
BAG HOLDER ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES,
PATENT OEEICE.
JOHN LITTLEJOHN, OF AURORA, ILLINOIS.
BAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 588,073, dated August 10, 1897.
Application ned November 19,1896. Serin No. 612,697. dro man.)
To @ZZ whom, it muy concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN LITTLEJOHN, of Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Iniprovement in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a combined bag and pail holder designed to hold the so-called oysterpails7 and also papel` bags commonly used for wrapping purposes; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafterl described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my combined pail and bag holder. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the lower pail-receiver, and Fig. 3 illustrates in detail the connection between the bagclamp and the frame.
While the pail-receivers and bag-clamp may be secured to a board or other similar forrn of frame, it is preferred to employ the wire frame, as shown and as will be described in detail. The wire frame is formed with the side sections A and B, looped at their upper ends a b and extended downward, with their rear bars fitting in the rear angles of the pail-receivers C and D and their front arms secured within said receivers C and D about midway between the front and rear edges thereof. I also provide a back rod E, which is secured to the inner sides of the back plates of receivers C and D and entends upward and has a loop or eye e at-its upper end, so it can be readily hung on a hook or nail. A cross-plate F connects the back rod with the rear strands of the side pieces A and B and braces the device near the upper end of the wire frame'. The lower receiverD is adapted to receive larger pails than the upper receiver C, and the front and rear rods of the side frames are defiected outwardly just below the upper receiver C to adapt them to receive the larger pails placed in the lower receiver. At their front sides the receivers slope forwardly toward their upper ends, so the pails can be readily inserted and removed, and the side frames, being set back from the front edge of the receivers, do not interfere with the introduction and withdrawal of the pails and still serve to prevent said pails from falling to one side or the other,
the inclination of the front plates of the receivers tilting the pails forward, so they can be easily withdrawn.
The pails are placed in the receivers nested or fitted one within the other, and in orderceiver in position to be engaged by the wire bail or handle of the lower pail and, if desired, of one of the other pails and serving to secure such pail or pails in the receiverin which they may be fitted.
By providing the two receivers of different sizes I am able to hold assorted sizes of the pails.
The bag-clamp is shown as a bow-spring having its inner plate H provided with keepers or loops 7i, sliding on one of the side sections A or B and held by a clamp screw and nut, so it can be adjusted up or down, as de sired. Manifestly several of these bag-clamps may be provided for holding different sizes of bags separately.
It will also be understood that where desired the bag-holding clamp can be secured adjustably or otherwise upon the front or l sides of the pail-receivers.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In a device substantially as described, a pail-holder provided with a pail-receiver having a downwardly-facing hook for engagement by the bail of the pail, substantially as described.
2. A device substantially as described, coinprising the frame having side sections the pail-receivers secured to said side sections and the bag-clamp held to and adjustable along one of said side sections, substantially as described.
A 3. The device herein described, consisting of thc frame having side sections, the upper and lower pail-receivers held to said side sections and made in different sizes, the side sections being deflected below the upper pailreceiver, substantially as described.
4. The device herein described, consisting of the upper and lower pail-receivers the l ceiver secured to said side sections above said frame comprising side sections secured to l deztlect'ed portions, the loWer'pai-lreceiver se# said receivers and deflected laterally below cured to said side sections below the deilected the upper receiver, the back rod secured to portions the hooks secured in said receivers said receivers and extended upwardly be; in position for engagement by the bails of the tween the side sections, the brace connecting pails and the bag-clamp secured adj ustably said rod with the side sect-ions and the bag- I to one of the side sections, substantially as clamp held to the frame substantially as dei described. y scribed. l J OHN LITTLEJOHN.
5. The device herein described, consisting,` l llfitnesses:
