SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 587,836, dated August 10, 1897.
Application filed July 31, 1896. Serial No. 601,290. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL LANZ, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Augsburg, in the Kingdom of Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Boxes or Carton Envelops, of which the following is a specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a section of the box, showing the fastening-tongues. Fig. 2 is a front view. Fig. 3 shows the top section; Fig. l, the bottom section. Fig. 5 shows a paper band embodying features of my invention.
The drawings show in Fig. 1 the lateral section of a card box. The bottom or and the top m are shaped to form a box and the two parts are held together by tongues and slits. The cover or top m is formed with a tongue q of reduced width, which engages a slit 8 in the end of the box, passing through the same, and to further secure the parts the tongue g has a slit (1, with which engages a tongue 2, cut out of the body of the box and as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3.
In Fig. 5 is shown a paper band having the tongue q and slit g at one end and the slits s and z at the opposite, and in the folding of the band the ends engage each other, as above.
Instead of making the top and bottom separate, as shown in Figs. -1 to 4, the box may be made with flaps to engage each other across the top and bottom of the box, one flap having the tongue q and slit q and the other flap having the slit 5 and tongue 2.
I claim- A paper box and the like and means for securing the parts together comprising a tongue, an adjacent part having a slit to receive the tongue, a slit in the tongue, and a tongue formed in said adjacent part adapted to en gage the slit in the tongue of the first part, both of the said tongues being carried through to the inside of the box, the part m securing a firm hold by being pushed through the main slit to bring its slit beneath the supplemental tongue, substantially as described.
