Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
D. M. SMITH, OF SPRINGFIELD, VERMONT.
PAPER-HOLDER.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent Nol 58,687, dated October 9, 1866.
To all whom itmay concern:
Be it known that I, I). M. SMITH, of Springfield, IVindsor county, and State of Vermont, have invented a new and Improved Paper- Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying` drawings, forming part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in providing,` a device by which sheets of paper may be held and hung upon a wall or other convenient places.
A variety of devices have been introduced for this purpose, but none more cheap, simple, and novel than my invention, which merely consists of one piece ot' wire bent in such a manner that it forms a spring and a point that pierces a hole made by the coil. ot the wire.
Figure l is a side elevation of my improved paper-holder. Fig. 2 is a top-plan view of the same.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the gures.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to de scribe its construction and operation.
A represents my improved paper-holder, which is made of steel wire and bent in such a manner that a spring is formed at the end of the bow.
B represents the point, that is turned at right angles with the bar or wire and enters and pierces the hole c, made by the coil of the wire.
D and E are also coils made by the wire, for the purpose ot' formingI a bearing for the thumb and finger when operating it.
The operation simply consists in springing the wires together, which draws out the point from the eye or hole c, when the paper may be laid or placed between the eye and point; then, by releasing the spring` by the hand, by the action ot' the spring` the point is pressed through the papers and they are held fastin their place, which makes it one of the cheapest and best paper-holders now in use.
Having,` thus described my invention, what I cla-iin as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The construction and arrangement ot' the coilspring provided with a point, B, that pierces the eye or hole c, and all from one piece of wire, substantially as and for the purposes described.
