SOFT-TREAD HORS ESHOE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,696, dated July 20, 1897. Application filed October 12, 1896- Serial No. 608,54'7. illo model.)

Be it known that I, LToNnL D. SAXTON, a citizen of the United. States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful ln'iprovement in llorseshoes,'whieh improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

M y invention consists of a horseshoe or other animal shoe which is provided on its under face with pads or cushions which are seated in grooves, alternating with which is a neck or necks, which pads or cushions and neck or necks constitute the tread of the shoe, th us prevcn ting slipping, providing a balance for the shoe, and increasing the strength thereof, while equalizing the Wear of the tread.

If desired, the number of necks may be increased, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. l. and full lines in Fig. 5, in which case the continuity of the groove on each side of the shoe is broken and the necks join the walls of tlib grooves as thus formed, as shown at O C in said Fig. 5.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure b Letters Patent, is-

1.; A horseshoe having grooves in its under face with a separating downwardly-projecting neck, integral with the body of the-shoe, and a horizontally-projecting rim with a depending lip, the Walls of said grooves having depending lips.

2. A horseshoe having the grooves'B in its under face extending from the heel to the toe portion thereof, the downWardly-projoting toe-piece O separating the front ends of said grooves, cushions held insaidgrooves, and

the horizontal rim II having the downwardlyprojeeting lip J.

3. A horseshoe having the grooves B in its under face extending from the heel to the toe portion thereof, the downwardly-projecting toe-piece O separating the ends of said grooves, the horizontal rim I-I having the downwaidly-projecting lip J, and the cushions of fibrous material and rubber held in said grooves.
