UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY F. .IENKS, OF PAIVTUCKET, RHODE ISLAND.
DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,313, dated July 13, 1897.
Application filed November 6, 1896. Serial No. 611,285. (No model.)
To 0,17, whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY F. J ENKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pawtucket, in the county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drinking-Cup Attachments for Fountains, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my inventionv is to provide a chained drinking-cup so arranged that the cup will be drawn by the chain to an eye or pocket for holding the cup; and it consists in a drinking-cup having a chain attached thereto and a stationary eye or pocket through which the chain passes and to which the cup will be drawn by the weight of the chain, as hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing the figure represents the central vertical section of a drinking fountain provided with my improved drinking-cup attachment.
In the drawing, A represents the hollow base of the fountain; B, the annular basin adapted to receive the overflow; O, the waterpipe, and D D faucets connected therewith, the discharging-aperture of the faucets being preferably located directly over the drinkingcup E, as shown in the drawing, so that the water will be discharged from the faucet into the said cup when it is held in the eye or pocket G. The chain II is attached to the bottom of the cup E and passes downward through the eye or pocket G, and to the lower end of the chain is attached the Weight I, which forms a stop adapted to prevent the complete withdrawal of the chain from the said eye or pocket G. When the filled cup E has been raised to the position for drinking, as shown in the drawing, the weight of the chain II will serve to carry the cup back to the eye or pocket Gin which it is to be held.
Instead of attaching a separate chain and weight to each cup arranged at a drinkingfountain two cups may have theirchains connected to a single weight or stop I, as shown by the dotted chain connection in the drawing.
I claim as my invention- The combination of a drinking-cup having a chain attached thereto, with a stationary eye or pocket through which the chain passes, and to which the cup will be drawn by the chain, and means for preventing the complete withdrawal of the chain from the eye or pocket, substantially as described.
HENRY F. JENKS.
