GUSTAVE TASSE, OF MONTREAL, CANADA.
OPERATING-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 585,243, dated June 29, 1897.
Application filed September 1, 1896. $erial No. 604,589. (No model.)
novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a plan view. Figs. 4., 5, 6, and 7 are all side views showing the device in various positions.
A are two side bars provided with a crosspiece a at one end and recesses a at their other ends.
B are legs pivoted to one end of the side bars A, next to the cross-piece, and provided with a stretcher b.
O are legs connected by hinges C to the other end of the side bars A. The legs 0 are provided with stretchers c and c at their upper and lower parts, respectively.
D are extension-pieces connected by hinges D to the upper ends of the legs 0. The legs 0 are provided with longitudinal slots 6?, and d are recesses on one side of the legs 0 at their tops, next to the hinges O.
The extension-pieces D and the upper parts of the legs 0 are free to engage with the recesses a, so that the legs 0 can be placed in line with the side bars A, and the device can then be used as a stretcher and for other purposes.
E, F, and G are three panels. The panels E and F are connected together by hinges e, secured to their upper sides, and the panels F and G are connected together by the hinges e, secured to their lower sides. The righthand end of the panel E is provided with blocks E, which are pivoted by the pins f to the side bars A near the recesses a, and f is a catch of any approved construction for connecting the left-hand end of the panel E to the cross-piece a. Each panel preferably consists of a frame to which a sheet of leather is secured, but the panels may be constructed in any approved manner. The right-hand end of the panel F is provided with a series of holes 9 at each side, and g are foot-rests of any approved construction,wh ich are dropped into engagement with the said holes.
1-1 are bars pivoted to the side bars A by the pins h, and H is a rod slidable in the slots d of the legs 0. The rod H is clamped to the legs (J by a thumb-nut h, and the bars 11 are pivoted to the said rod.
.1 are bars pivoted by pins t to the panel G.
1 is a stretcher connecting the two bars I, and t" are notches in the free ends of the said bars I for'engaging with the rod 11.
The free end of the panel G is provided with pegs G.
J are ratchet-toothed bars secured tothe side bars A, and j are legs pivoted by the pins j to the panel E. The legs J are inside the panel when the panel is horizontal, and they engage with the bars J when the panel E is raised.
The bars H are provided with a stretcher 7c, and the legs B are provided with a catch for securing them to the cross-piece a.
K are stops secured to the panel G beyond the bars I.
The pegs G engage with holes m in the extension-pieces D when the device is used as a chair, as shown in Fig. 6.
The bars I come against the stops K when the device is used as a couch, as shown in Fig. 7. f
The extension-pieces D are raised to sup port 'the panel F when the device is arranged to treat a patient for fistula, as shown in Fig. 4.
Fig. 5 shows the device arranged in position for supporting a patient in the dorsal position with the foot-rests in position. The bars H and I hold in position the legs 0 and the panel G, and the panel F is supported by the bars I and panel G above the upper ends of the legs 0.
The device may be placed in other useful positions, and when the legs 0 are placed in line with the side bars A the extension-pieces D drop into the recesses a and the recesses d engage with the ends of the side bars.
What I claim is- 1. The combination, with the side bars pro- -vided with recesses a at one end, of the legs C hinged to the side bars below the said recesses and provided with recesses cl, and the extension-pieces hinged to the top of the legs and free to engage with the recesses a, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the side bars, and the legs 0 hinged to them and provided with slots; of three panels hinged together, the bars H and I pivoted respectively to the side bars and to one of the panels, a rod slidable the slots, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with the side bars, and
the legs 0 pivoted to them at one end and [5 provided with extension-pieces of three panels hinged together, one end panel being connected to the said side bars and the other end panel being provided with pegs for engaging with the said extension-pieces, substantially 2 0 as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
