BENJAMIN F. FORD, OF NEV CASTLE, MAINE.
SINK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 58 5,197, dated .I une 29, 1892A Application led August 20, 1896. Serial No. 603,382. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be itknown that I, BENJAMIN F. FORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Castle, in the county of Lincoln and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sinks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to sinks for domestic use and presents certain novel features which are improvements lupon certain Letters Pat# ent No. 521,406, granted to me the 12th day of June, 1894.
I have fully shown the details of my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the sink. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2 2. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3. Fig. 4 is an elevation of the soap-box, and Fig. 5 is an elevation of the trap-cover.
In all of the figures the same numeral indicates the same part.
l is a metal sink of the usual rectangular form, having a bottom 2, in one side of whichY is the depressed channel 3, with perforated cover-plate 4 and a cover-section 5, of wirega'uze or similar material, upon which the pump or faucet is adapted to impinge the water to prevent splashing. At the corner of the sink is a further depressed pit 6, with sloping sides 7, and up from the bottom of which projects the end 8 of the waste-pipe 9, forming a water-trap 10. Adapted to fit into the pit iiush with the channel 3 is a scrap-cup 11 to catch refuse bodies. The cup 11 has the handle 12, the perforations 13 in the bottom 14 so disposed as to lie outside of the projecting annular ring l5, which laps over the end 8 of the waste-pipe. Adapted to fit in the pit 6, above the cup 11, is a soap-box 16, with cover 17, the perforated bottom 18, and the apron 19, adapted to project downward and form a continuation of the sink-wall.
It will be readily understood that the drippings from the soap-dish pass directly into the waste-pipe, that the cup 11 may be Withdrawn and emptied at will, and that the sink is to be set up to iiow to the channel and thence to the pit.
Having fully described my invention, I desire to protect by Letters Patent, and claim- 1. In a sink, the longitudinal channel 3, the pit 6 therefor, a soap-box fitted to said pit, the waste-pipe projecting into said pit, and the cup 11 having a handle, a perforated Vbottom, and a ring l5, for the purpose, and substantially as described.
2. In a sink, the longitudinal channel 3, the perforated cover therefor, the gauze section thereof for the purpose described, a pit 6 at the end of said channel, the soap-dish and the cup 11 fitting said pit, and the ring 15 of said cup lapping the waste-pipe of said pit substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN F. FORD.
