JACOB SALE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
FOLDING BABY-CARRIAG E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,898, dated June 22, 1897. Application filed February 1'7, 1896. Serial No. 579,681. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, J AOOB SALE, a citize of the United States, residing in the city of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gearing for Folding Baby-Carriages, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the running-gears when in position. Fig. 2 shows the gearing folded up.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to furnish a baby-carriage that may be neatly and compactly folded up, thus being more readily carried about and stored away.
The invention consists of an acting-bar pivoted to two sets of cross-pieces hinged to the side bars by bolts at their inner ends and a cross-bar loosely fitting upon the screwthreaded rear end thereof, upon which is a nut used to lock the device.
In the drawings, A represents the actingbar, and B the cross-pieces, hinged to the sidebars 0, the inner ends of each set being pivoted upon a bolt F. The acting-bar A is connected to these bolts and screw threaded upon its rear end, the cross-bar E fitting loosely upon the actin -bar and at its ends adapted to engage the side-bars C and hold them in their extended position, and a nut D upon the acting-bar A, adapted to engage the cross-bar E, thereby locking the device in its extended position and making the whole gear firm and steady. The handle -bar G fit-s loosely upon one of the side-bars, O, and is stationary upon the other, C
In closing thecarriage the locking-nut D is moved forward on the screw-threaded end of bar A, the handle-bar G is lifted upward, and drawing backward barA the cross-pieces fold together, bar A being the lever for closing and opening the coach, and nut D the locking device.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, to wit:
In a folding-carriage gear, the combination of side-bars connected byj ointed cross-pieces, an acting-bar pivotally connected to the crosspieces, a cross-bar E engaging the side-bars and a nut D upon the screw-threaded end of the acting-bar, substantially as described.
Dated the 23d day of May, A. D. 1895.
JACOB sALE.
