Description

(No Model) G. A. DOYLE.
DOOR SBOURER.
No. 584,677. Patented June 15,. 1897.
WITNESSES ATENT FFICE.
DOOR- -SE'CURER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,677, dated June 15, 1897. Application filed November 24, 1896. $erial No. 613,337. (No model.)
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. DOYLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vadis, in the county of Lewis and State of est Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Seeurers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in door-securers.
It consists in certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved door-securer. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same, the said device being applied in position upon a door. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the hook-plate. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the securing-plate applied upon the inner end of said hook-plate, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the key-piece or bolt.
A in the drawings represents a hook-plate for engaging the door-jamb, B a plate for se curing the inner end of the plate A, and O the key-piece or bolt.
The plate A is preferably formed of a flat piece of metal and provided with a bent-up portion at one end, forming an engaging hook a. The said hook portion a is provided with one or more teeth adapted to engage the j amb of a door when in use. The plate A is also provided with one or more perforations or adjusting-apertures a a for purposes hereinafter described.
The securingplate B is preferably struck from a single piece of metal and is provided with a slot 1), adapted to receive the end of the plate A. One end of the plate B is bent up and provided with an aperture 12 near its central portion, forming retaining-lugs Z) Z). Between the lugs b b and the slot 19 is a projection or lug 6 preferably formed by striking up a portion of said plate from its lower edge.
il The key-piece or bolt O is formed, prefer.- ably, of a rod bent at an angle at one end, at c.
In using the door-securer the hook-plate A is placed between the edge of the door and the jamb, the teeth of. the portion abeing forced into the woodwork, while the other end of the plate projects beyond the surface of the closed door and the casing. The securingplate B is'next put in place, the slot 1) receiving the end of the plate A, which extends through the same. The plate B is pushed snugly against the door, and the key or bolt O is inserted in the aperture 0, nearest to the plate B by passing it through the aperture 19 between the lugs l) b of the securing-plate. The bolt 0 is pushed in far enough to allow the bent end thereof to clear the lugs Z) I) and is then dropped between said lugs and the lug 11 It will be seen from the above description that the bolt 0 is held in place by the lugs b and b on the securing-plate, so that it cannot be dislodged by jarring or other means from the exterior of the door secured thereby, and that the securing-plate B is held securely in place against the face of the door, so that the said door cannot be opened.
It will also be perceived that the device is extremely simple and of cheap construction and yet adapted for effective use for seourin g doors in their closed positions.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is p A doorsecurer comprising a hook-plate provided with engaging teeth and adj usting-apertures,a securing-plate adapted to be applied over the end of said hook-plate, and provided with retaining-lugs and a key or bolt provided with a bent'up end portion and adapted to be passed through one of the apertures in said hook plate, for holding the securing-plate in place, the bent-up end engagingthe retaininglugs, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE A. DOYLE.
