Be it known that I, WALLACE H. CARTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Bicycle Parcel-Holder, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a new and improved bicycle parcel-holder; and the invention consists in a metal framework attached to the handle-bar of a bicycle and projecting in front thereof and provided with netting or other suitable material for holding the pareels, the framework being constructed with a curved portion adapted to rit the handlebars, and a key adapted to lock the saine upon the handle-bar and post,substantially as hereinafter described.

The objects of the invention are, trst, to construct a parcel-carrier. which can be quickly attached and detached from the bicycle; second, to construct a parcel-carrier which will contain strength and lightness and which is provided with a key attached thereto for se* curing the saine in position upon the handle bar of a bicycle. These objects I accomplish by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l shows a perspective view ot' the framework of the parcelcarrier secured in position upon the handle-bar, the view being taken from the front of the bicycle. Fig. 2 shows a perspective view, on an enlarged plan, of the portions shown in Fig. l. Fig. 3 shows the locking-key detached. Fig. lshows a perspective front view of the parcel-carrier with netting secured upon the framework. Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of the metallic framework detached.

A represents the standard which supports the handle-bar.

B represents the handle-bar.

C represents the metallic framework, the saine being p provided with a curved portion D D, which curved portion, as shown in the drawings, extends down on the rear side of the handle-bar and then is bent forward, having curves at E E, which project in front of the standard or attaching part of the handle* bar. The object of this construction is to fit serai No. 596,516. (No modell) the supporting-traine to the handle-bar and adapt the same to be attached by means of a single key. The form of the key is shown in Fig. 3, and is also shown in position in Figs. l, 2, and 4. This key is bent so as to form a loop IfI, the loop inclosing one side of the curved portion D. The key is also provided with a key-seat or flattened portion, (shown by F F.) It will be noticed that when the frame C is placed in position thc upper portion of the curve lies to the rear of the handlebar, the middle portion lies tothe front of the handle-bar, and the lower portion again lies to the rear of the handlebar orstandard, thus forming the loops E E, between which loops and the handle-bar or standard the key passes. The loop II is of suthcient length to allow the key to be withdrawn, so that its free end will be removed from the loop opposite the key-seat. l

In attaching my invention the frame is placed upon the handle-bar, as shown in Figs. l and 2. The key is then pressed through so that the lower portion of the same passes between the loops I-I H andthe standard or perpendicular portion of the handle-bar. The key is then turned upward, the same being constructed of elastic or spring wire, until the fiat portion or seat F bears against the loop, and thereby secures the key in position and secures the framework of the parcel-carrier securely upon the handle-bar- In the example of my invention shown in the drawings the looped port-ion H is turned upward, but instead oi being turned upward the key-seat may be made on the opposite side of the key, and the saine is then turned downward, the position being immaterial, providing the key-seat or flattened portion is brought in contact with the loop, so as to secure the key in position and prevent the same from accidental removal. Instead of providing the flattened portion so as to engage with the loop, if desired the saine might be so constructed as to engage with the standard or perpendicular portion of the handle-bar.

Having thus described rn y invention, what I claim to have invented, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In combination with a framework having a loop constructed integral therewith, the upper and lower portions of said loop lying IOO to the rear of the handle-bar and its support, the central o'r middle portions proj-ect ing in front and to each side of the ha'ndlebar standard, and a key arranged to pass between the front loops of the framework and the handle-bar standard, said key being provided with a loop H which embraces one of said front loops to prevent the complete removal of the key but is of sufcient length to allow the free end of the key to be disengaged to remove the framework from the handle-bar standard, substantially as described.

2. In combination with a handle-bar and standard of a bicycle, the framework of a parcel-carrier having a loop made integral therewith, the upper and lower portion of said loop lying to the rear of the handle-bar, and its central or middle portion projecting in front of the handle-bar and standard, a key provided with a longitudinal loop whereby the same is secured to the metallic framework of the parcel-carrier and, allowing for a longitudinal movement of the said key, said key adapted to pass between the front loops of the framework of the parcel-carrier and the standard or perpendicular portion of the handle-bar, and akey-seat adapted to retain the said key in its locked position, substantially as and for the purpose described.

3. A parcel-carrier composed of a framework, a loop made integral therewith, the upper and lower portions of said loop lying to the rear of said handle-bar and standard,

` the central portion lying in front and to each side of the handle-bar, a key secured to the said loop by a loop H adapted to move longitudinally for the purpose of attaching and detachin g the said framework of the parcelcarrier to the handle-bar, and a netting or other suitable material forming a receptacle for packages, substantially as described.
