INVENTOI? I 1% W7 LZMQZ ATTORNEY-S,

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
PERCY YOUNG, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
HYGIENIC FLOUR-BIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 583,563, dated June 1, 1897. Application filed May 9, 1896. Serial No. 590-933. (N m el-) To aZZ whom it rnctz concern:
Be it known that I, PERCY YOUNG, a subject of the Queen of England, and a resident of 72 Mark Lane, in the city of London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hygienic Flour-Bins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to bins or receptacles for flour and similar substances; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be constructed of galvanized iron or other meta-l or of papier-mach or any preferred material.
It has been the custom hitherto to construct bins or receptacles for flour or like substances in such manner that joints or seams, forming creases or crevices, were produced therein into which flour or similar substances would lodge, and such flour or similar substances in the course of time decompose and generate mites and other organisms which are detrimental to health; and the object of my invention is to construct a bin or receptacle so as to avoid these objections and so that the in-' terior thereof will be smooth and wherein there will be no seams or creases in which flour or like substances may find lodging.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a central vertical section of a bin or receptacle made according to my invention, the separate parts of which the same is composed being shown disconnected, but in a position to be united; and Fig. 2, a side View of the bin or receptacle completed. 7
In the practice of my invention I provide a bin or receptacle in which I employa rounded bottom A, which is circular in form at the top thereof and provided with an outwardly-directed annular projection a, above which is formed a vertical band or rim 0 which is provided at its top with an inwardly and down- Wardly directed flange a and I also provide a bodyportion B, which is cylindrical in form and which is provided at its bottom with an outwardly and upwardly directed flange b, which, when the parts are connected, is adapted to interlock with the inwardly and downwardly curved flange 0- which is connected with the bottom A.
The upper end of the bottom portion B is provided with an annular head 19 and I also provide a cap or cover D, to which is secured an annular depending rim d,which is adapted to be inserted into the top of the bodyportion D, and said top'and said rim (1 are connected by means of an annular outwardly-directed flange (1 formed on the rim d, and an outwardly and inwardly curved flange 01 formed on the cap or cover D.
I also provide an annular band or support 0, which is adapted to inclose the bottom A and on which the outwardly-directed annular projection a rests, and the object of this annular band C is to provide a firm base or support for the bin or receptacle and one which is adapted to protect the bottom thereof from injury.
The method of connecting the separate parts of my improved bin or receptacle will be readily understood by all those familiar with this class of devices; and,
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As a new article of manufacture a bin or receptacle for flour consisting of a bin having a rounded circular bottom, an outwardly-directed annular projection secured to the top thereof, vertical bands or rims above said projection, an inwardly and downwardly directed flange secured to the top of said rim, a body portion cylindrical in form, an outwardly and upwardly directed flange secured to said body portion and adapted to interlock with the said inwardly and downwardly curved flange and an annular bead secured to the 'upper end of said body portion, a cap or cover having an annular depending rim onthe lower side thereof adapted to be inserted in the top of said body portion, an annular outwardlydirected flange secured to said rim and an inwardly-curved flange formed on the said cap (1 or support my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 12th day of March, 1896.
or cover, and an annular ban adapted to inclose the said bottom portion and supporting said outwardly-directed annular projection, all of said parts being combined substantially as and for the purpose \Vitnesses:
described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as PERCY YOUNG.
JOHN YOUNG, SIDNEY WALTER YOUNG.
