Description

(No Model.)
H. M. AMOS.
FRUIT EVAPORATOR.
No. 595,011. Patented Dec. 7,1897.
UNI'IED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY M. AMOS, OF RAINSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
FRU lT-EVAPORATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 595,011, dated December 7, 1897.
Application filed March 11, l 897.
T0 610% whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY M. AMOS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rainsburg, in the county of Bedford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit-Evaporators; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in fruit-evaporators, and especially to an improvement upon my evaporator upon which I was granted Letters Patent No. 556,912 of March 24, 1896; and the present invention is designed to generally improve upon the construction shown in my former patent, by which I produce a more practical evaporator, in which all moisture coming from the tanks is kept from moistening the fruit held in the trays formed upon the tops of each of the superimposed tanks,
and making the various trays easily detachable.
More especially the invention resides in the provision of hoops or bands which have outwardly-flaring rims at their upper ends, which are designed to overlap the telescoping funnels which communicate between the tanks, and the provision of an outer hoop forming a receptacle which is soldered to the top or upper surface of each tank, excepting the top one, and surrounds the funnel-shaped passage-way, whereby any moisture which may pass down the sides of the funnels may be conducted back into the tank beneath.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists, further, in the novel construction, combination,
. and adaptation of parts, which will be more clearly shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which drawings Serial No. 627,030. (No model.)
similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout both views, in which Figure 1 is a vertical central section through my improved evaporator. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of two of the trays separated, showing the arrangement of the connecting funnels.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the bottom tank, which is adapted to be partially filled with water for the purpose of heating, and superimposed upon the base portion are the combined trays and tanks B, the bottom of each of the said tanks being provided with legs 0, and at the center of the bottom of the said tanks B is provided an aperture through which water and steam are allowed to pass from tank to tank. The bottom of each of the said tanks is also inclined, as shown in the drawings, so as to allow water to readily drain off.
Secured to the periphery of each aperture is a flaring hoop E, which projects downward, and telescoping within the top of said hoop .is the band F, having a flange F about its top overlapping the meeting edges of the said hoop and the portion of the bottom of the tank about the periphery. The said band F is slightly tapered, leaving a suflicient space between its outer circumference and the inner circumference of the ring E to receive the telescoping band or connection G, the lower end of which is designed to be soldered to the top of a tray II. It will thus be seen when one tray is superimposed with the bands and hoops telescoping as described that any moisture which may be contained within the tanks above will readily pass through the apertures to the lower tank without any liability of any moisture passing into the trays from the tanks.
Located about each of the bands or funnelshaped connections G is a band K, which is provided to receive any moisture that might happen to fall in the space outside of the band G and in the space between the said bands G and K. About the lower portion of each band G are apertures to allow the water to pass through into the passage-way leading from tank to tank. At either corner of the tanks, as at M, are provided outlet-apertures,
TOO
on its upper surface with ;a tapering band G apertured near its lowered ge and surrounded by a band K, combined With atapering band secured about the periphery of a central, bottom aperture in the tray, and a flanged hoop telescoping therein, leaving a slight space between the walls of each to receive a hoop G, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY M. AMOS. Witnesses:

HARRY FILLER.
