BRUSH-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 583,559, dated June 1, 1897. Application filed November 29, 1895. Serial No. 570,430. (No model.)

T0 at whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, ADOLPH R. TIENS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brush-Holders for Bottle-Washers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention has for its object to provide simple, economical, and efficient brush-hold ers that do not require removal from a bottle-washing machine when new brushes are substituted for those that become unserviceable; and it consists in what is hereinafter set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents an elevation of a portion of a bottle-washing brush in connection with my improved holder, the latter and a sleeve or portion of a water-conduit with which it engages being partly in section on line 1 1 of Fig. 2; Fig. 2, an elevation of the brush shank and holder, the aforesaid sleeve or portion'of the water-conduit engaged by said holder being in section; and Fig. 3, a plan view on line 3 3 of Fig. 2.

Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents the wire shank of a bottle-washing brush embodyin g bristles b in its construction, and the eye 0, obtained by twisting the wire, is engaged by a hook B, that has a screwthreaded shank d, herein shown as engaged with a tapped sleeve 0, that in practice constitutes part of a rotary water-conduit in a bottle-washing machine, although it is practical to omit the sleeve and have the connection of the hook direct with the remainder of the water-conduit. The hook-shank is shown as provided with an aperture e for the escape of water, and this aperture is preferably oblique, as herein shown.

The hook is of such proportions that when the shank thereof is run its full length into the water-conduit the point f will be close enough to the adjacent end of said conduit to prevent the detachment of a brush having its eye engaged by said hook, the point of the latter being preferably beveled to facilitate engagement of the brush-eye.

Tapped sleeves or conduit-sections O are I necessary in connection with bottle-washing machines wherein the bottle ends of the Water-conduits terminate in screw-threaded nipples, as is ordinarily the case, but in the construction of new machines it is practical to tap the outer ends of said conduits, and thereby do away with the necessity for said sleeves or conduit-sections as hook-holders. It also follows that the sleeve or conduit -section herein described is an extension of the rotary conduit itself, and therefore the hook-shank is always adjustable in a tapped extremity of said conduit, whether the latter be in one or two pieces.

Having now fully described my invention,

what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A rotary Water-conduit of a bottle-washing machine having a tapped extremity, in combination with a hook having an apertured screw-threaded shank-adjustable in said extremity of the conduit, and a brush having an eye engaged by the hook, the point of the latter coming close to said conduit extremity when said shank is run its full length therein.

2. A sleeve for screw-thread connection with a water-conduit of a bottle-washing machine to constitute part of the same, a hook having an apertured shank in screw-thread engagement with the sleeve, and a brush having an eye engaged by the hook, the point of the latter coming close to said sleeve when said shank is run its full length therein to prevent detachment of the brush.
