LEE CLIN ON SAIVIN, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.
MUCILAGE OR OTHER LlQUlD-ADHESIVE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 582,100, dated May 4, 1897'. Application filed June 24, 1396. Serial No. 596,736. (No model.)
T at whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, LEE CLINTON SAW'IN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in llIucilage or other Liquid-Adhesive Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to mucilage an d other liquid-adhesive bottles; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and which is designed to prevent the mucilage or other adhesive from evaporating, and also to prevent the same from drying or caking on the neck of the bottle.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, said drawing being a central vertical section of my improved mucilage or other liquid-adhesive bottle.
In the practice .of my invent-ion I provide a casing 5, which is open at the top and closed at the bottom and which is preferably cylin' drical in form, and said cylindrical casin g is provided with a cap or cover 6, which may he detachably connected therewith and which is also provided centrally thereof with a circular opening 7, around which is formed an upwardly-directed flange or rim 8; but this flange or rim is immaterial and may or may not be employed.
Arranged concentrically of the casing 5, and preferably formed integrally therewith, is a receptacle 9, which is preferably bottleshaped in form and which is provided with a neck 10, beveled to a sharp edge at top, which passes upwardly through the central opening 7 in the removable cap or cover 6, and I also provide a supplemental cap or cover 11, which is provided with a depending annular flange or rim 12, which is adapted to rest upon the cap or cover 6 of the casing and to inclose both the neck 10 of the receptacle 9 and also the central opening '7in said cap or cover 6, and the supplemental cap or cover 11 is provided with a central tubular extension 13, through which the handle 14 of the brush 15 is passed, and said handle may be adj ustably connected with said tubular neck 13 or held at any desired position therein by friction. By means of this arrangement an annular chamber 16 is formed around the receptacle 9, and the body portion of said receptacle is below the top of the casing 5, and in practice the chamber 16 is filled with water or any other liquid, which preferably covers the body portion of the receptacle 9 and extends upwardly around the neck 10. The mucilage or otherliquid adhesive is placed in the receptacle 9, and the sup plemental cap or cover 11, with which the brush is connected, incloses the opening 7 in the cap or cover 6 of the casing 5 and also the neck 10 of the mucilage-receptacle.
The evaporation of the water or moisture caused thereby will act to prevent the evaporation of the mucilage, and it will also prevent the mucilage from drying 011 the neck 10 of the bottle, and it will be apparent that the water may be poured into the annular chamber at any time through the opening 7 in the cap or cover 6, and the supplemental cap or cover 11, which is removed with the brush whenever the latter is removed, also aids in preventing the evaporation of the mucilage and to a certain extent the too rapid evaporation of the water.
The receptacle 9 may be formed independ ently of the casing 5, if desired; but in practice I prefer to make both the casing and the m ucilagerreceptacle of glass and to form them integrally.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A mu cilage or other liquidadhesive bottle, comprising a casing which is open at the top, and provided with a cap or cover, having a central circular opening formed therein, a mucilage-receptacle arranged concentrically within said casing, and to confine the vapor arising from said casin g and allow it to pass into said receptacle and provided with a neck which extends upwardly through the opening in the cap or cover, and a supplemental removable cap or cover, which is provided with a depending annular rim or flange, and which I00 is adapted to rest upon the cap or cover on the casing, said supplemental cap or cover being provided with a central opening through Which the handle of a muoilage brush is 5 adapted to be passed, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presenee of the subscribing Witnesses, this 16th day of June, 1896.
