wifgzssas Nrrn JOHN S. CLINTON, OF BONHAM, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HENRY I1. MCOUISTION, OF PARIS, TEXAS.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 582,042, dated May 4, 1897. Application tiled November I6, 1896. Serial No. 612,329. (No model.)
T0 @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. CLINTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bonham, in the county of Fannin and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Non-Reiillable Bottle, of Which the following is aspecication.
The invention relates to improvements in non-reliliable bottles.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of non-retlllable bottles, and to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient one which in order to obtain access to its contents Will have to be sufficiently mutilated or altered in appearance so that it cannot be again used as an original package for the fraudulent sale of an imitation liquid.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view of a non-rellable bottle constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional View of the outer casing. Fig. 3 is a reverse plan view of the body portion of the outer casing. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the bottom of the outer casing.
Like numerals of reference designate correspondin g parts in all the figures of the drawings.
l designates a non-reiillable bottle comprising an inner receptacle 2 or bottle proper and an outer casing consisting of a body portion 3 and a separate bottom 4. The body portion 3 of the outer casing covers the top and sides of the receptacle 2, and it conforms generally to the configuration of the same, being provided With a neck portion 5, having a solid top 6. The neck portion 5 is provided with a tapering interior to accommodate necks of bottles of different sizes, so that a bottle or other receptacle will be held at the top against accidental movement Within the outer casing. The body portion of the outer casing is shown as rectangular in horizontal section, but it may be circular or any other shape, if desired, and a packing 7, preferably consisting of an elastic disk or ring, is interposed between the bottom 4 of the outer casin g and the bottom of the receptacle to cause the receptacle 2 or bottom proper to tit tightly Within the outer casingand prevent any movement of the same 5 5 independent of the casing. The packing may, however, be omitted, if desired.
The body of the outer casing is provided at its lower edge With outwardly-extending horizontal projections or lugs 8,'aud the bottom 6o 4 is provided with corresponding semisockets 9, projectingout-Ward and receiving the lugs or projections 8 of the body of the casing. After the receptacle or bottle proper, 2, which is designed to be provided with an ordinary cork, is arranged Within the outer casing the projections are permanently secured to the sockets by fusing the glass or by any other suitable means, whereby the projections and sockets, which are frangible, must be broken olf 7o in order to obtain access to the inner receptacle.
The outer casing is designed to be provided with the trade-mark and other matter desig nating the character of the contents of the receptacle or bottle 2, and after the outer casing has been removed the inner receptacle or bottle entirely loses its identity and cannot be employed as an ordinary package .for the fraudulent sale of an imitation liquid. 8o It Will also be apparent that the non-refillable bottle Will eifectually prevent its original contents from being adulterated.
What I claim isl. A non-refillable bottle comprising an inner receptacle designed to receive an ordinary stopper, and an outer frangible casing entirely surrounding and sealing the inner receptacle and adapted to be broken to afford access to the latter, substantially as and for 9o the purpose described.
2. A non-refillable bottle comprising an inner receptacle, and an outer Casin g entirely inclosing the inner vessel, and composed of sections connected by frangible portions adapted to be broken oft' to afford access to the inner receptacle, substantially as described.
3. A non-refillable bottle comprising an inner receptacle or bottle proper, and an outer casing composed of a body portion conformroo ing generally to the configuration of the inner receptacle and provided Wit-h a closed neck having a tapering interior to engage the In testimony that I claim the foregoing :ts neck of the receptacle, said body portion be my own I have hereto affixed my signature in 1o ing provided at its lower edges with projeethe presence of tWo Witnesses. tions, and 2t bottom having sockets receiving 5 the said projections and forming frengibie JOHN S' CLNTON' connections between the body of the casing Witnesses: and the bottom thereof, substantially as de- J. A. STEELE, scribed. WV. Y. DAVIS.
