G. J. KAISER. SAD IRON STAND AND HEATER.
No. 581,941. Patented Ma 4,1897.
Jiffy GEORGE J. RAISER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SAD-IRON STAND AND HEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of. Letters Patent No. 581,941, dated May 4, 1897.
Application filed June 22, 1896.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE J. Rmsnaa citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sad-Iron Stands and I-Ieaters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a fu1l,clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in sad-iron heaters, the object of the same being to provide a simple and convenient device for supporting sad-irons while they are being heated which shall be ornamental in appear ance and also provided with means for applying the heat of the gas-jet thereto.
The invention consists of a framework made up of two side plates of ornamental appearance, provided with advertising matter thereon, handles at the upper outer ends of said plates, a bracket located between the same and secured to a point near the under side thereof, tubes constituting gas-burners open at their top and bottom secured in said bracket, and a gas-pipe passing through the lower ends of said tubes and provided with a fine opening therein through which the gas is admitted to the burners.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the device, showing aseries of irons thereon. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a vertical crosssection through the same.
Like reference-numerals indicate like parts in the different views.
The frame of my device is made up of a pair of side plates 1 1 of ornamental shape and appearance, having advertising matter upon their outer faces, and wooden handles 2 2, connecting the upper outer ends of said plates. The upper edges of said plates are adapted to receive the sad-iron 3, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Secured to the plates 1 1 and located between the same is a bracket 4, in which are secured two tubes 5 5, open at their top and bottom and constituting gasburners. Extending through one of theplates l and through the lower ends of the tubes 5 is a gas-inlet pipe 6, to which a rubber hose may be attached, and provided with orifices 7 7 just opposite the tubes 5. By this construction it will be seen that I have provided a simple, cheap, and ornamental device for supporting sad-irons while they are being heated in which gas-burners are provided which receive their supply of gas from the lower ends thereof and also receive a supply of air to be mixed with said gas before its ignition, constituting a Bunsen burner and utilizing all the heat-prod ucing properties of the gas. As stated, the sides 1 of the frame may be supplied with advertising matter and the whole device serve as an ornament to a kitchen and a stand for irons when not in use.
Instead of the bracket or spider 4 with the two gas-burner tubes 5 5 therein I may locate upon the upper side of said bracket a tank for containing alcohol, oil, or other suitable material, with two burners attached thereto, the same being provided for the purpose of enabling the device to be operated either by a lamp or a gas-burner.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a sad-iron heater made up of side plates of ornamental shape, upon the upper edges of which sad-irons are adapted to rest, handles connecting the upper outer ends thereof, a bracket secured to said plates and located between the same, vertical tubes secured in said bracket, open at their upper and lower ends, and a gas-inlet pipe extending transversely through the lower ends of said tubes and provided with openings therein for admitting the gas to said tubes, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE J. RAISER. Vitnesses:
NICHOLAS MOORE, J. J. DOUGHERTY.
