GEORGE XV. HESSLER, OF PATERSON, NElV JERSEY.
TOILET-OAS E.
SPEGIFICATIGN forming part of Letters Patent No. 581,861, dated May 4, 1897. Application filed September 3,1396- Serial No. 604,729. (No model.)
2'9 66 whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. IIESSLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Oases,of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts wherever found throughout both views.
This invention relates to toilet-cases; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is designed as a receptaclc and holder for face-powder, soap, and other similar articles, and also as a holder for soap for the teeth and other articles used in the cleaning and preservation of the teeth.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 Ba perspective view of my improved toilet-case, and Fig. 2 a transverse section thereof.
In the practice of my invention I provide a box or casing 5, which is preferably rectangular in form, but which may be made of any desired shape, and which is provided with legs or supports 6, and the box or casing 5 is provided with a hinged cover 7, which is hinged thereto at one side thereof, as shown at 8, and said cover consists of a flat top portion 9 and downwardly and outwardly curved sides and ends 10 and 11. I also provide a soap-holder which is preferably formed from a single piece of sheet metal, the ends of which are bent to form transverse brush-receptacles 12 and the central portion to form a plurality of chambers 13, which, as shown in the drawings, are preferably four in number, and said chambers are opened at the top and at each end and are adapted to receive cakes or bars of soap ll. The partitions 15 between each of the chambers or receptacles 13 are slightly higher than the bars of soap, and the said soapholder is held in place by screws or pins 16, which are passed upwardly through the flat portion 9 of the cover of the box or casing and also through the bottoms of said compartments or receptacles in which the bars of soap are placed, and the points of said screws or pins are adapted to enter said bars of soap, so as to hold them in place and prevent them from sliding endwise when a brush is drawn thereover. These receptacles or chambers 13 are intended to receive various kinds of soap used in cleaning and preserving the teeth, and the separate bars of soap placed therein may be differently flavored and composed of different material, and in practice I employ soaps flavored by Sassafras,Wintergreen, and other and similar substances, and I also employ soaps containing charcoal and potash and similar substances.
It will be understood that the box 5 maybe used as a receptacle for face-powder, toothpowder, and other and similar articles; and my invention is not limited to the method herein described of forming the chambers 13, nor to the material employed for making the soap which is placed in said chambers or receptacles.
My improved toilet-case is simple in construction and operation and may be composed of any desired material, and it is evident that modifications of the construction herein described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The herein-described toilet-case, which consists of a box or casing, provided with a hinged cover, on which is placed a holder for bars of soap, said holder being provided with a plurality of chambers or receptacles, said chambers or receptacles being opened at the top and ends, and said holder being provided at each end with a transverse brush-receptacle, substantially as shown and described.
2. As a new article of manufacture atoiletcase consisting of a rectangular easing, legs or supports secured thereto, a hinged cover mounted thereon, said cover consisting of a fiat top portion and downwardly and outwardly curved sides and ends, a soap-holder formed of a single piece of sheet metal and forming transverse brush-receptacles longitudinally with the same at either end and forming in the central portion thereof a pinrality of c11ambers,said chambers being adapted to receive bars of soap and means for securing said soap therein, all of said parts being combined substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 29th day of August, 1896.
GEORGE W'. HESSLER.
W'itnesses:
\V. W. HILL, CHARLES S. ROGERS.
