To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARcUs W. BAILEY, of Woodhull,in the county of Henry and State of Illinois, have inven ted a new and Improved Corn-Husker, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to that class of cornhuskers which is in glove form; and the object of the invention is to provide a huskingglove which will provide for ample ventilation and by means of which glove the ears of corn may be husked cleanly and in an expeditious manner and without unduly tiring the operator.
A further object of the invention is to construct the husking-glove simply, economically, and durably.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth,and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indioate corresponding parts in all the figures.

A finger-cap A is provided in carrying out the invention,which cap is made of metal and is adapted to receive the finger-tips, and when the glove is worn the bottom edge of the finger-cap will be located at the front at the first joint inside of the hand; but the back of the finger-cap is longer and its lower edge 11 extends to about the second joint at the back of the hand. In connection with the fingercap A a finger-band A is used, and the up-- per edge 12 of the finger-bandis inclined upwardly from the outside of the hand in direclIOl]. of the inside, as are likewise the bottom edges 10 and 11 of the finger-cap, but the bottom edge 13 of the finger-band A is usually made straight, as illustrated.
Upon the upper portion of the finger-capa metal point 15 is secured, being so placed as to be near the en'd of the forefinger when the glove is worn, and this point 15 is adapted particularly for opening the husk. The finger-band has a pivotal connection with the finger-cap, and this is preferably effected as illustrated in Fig. 3, in which cars 16 are formed at the upper edges of the ends of the finger-band, and these ears are pivot-ally connected to links 17, the links in their turn being pivotally attached to the end portions or outer edges of the finger-cap.
In order that the finger-cap may be ventilated as much as possible, apertures 14 are produced in the back portion of the same, as shown in Fig. 2.
A further connection is made between the front of the finger-cap A and the front of the finger-band A, and this connection preferably consists of linked wire rings 18, which are attached to the finger-cap at the front lower edge 10 and to the front upper edge 12 of the fingei band, as is particularly shown in Fig. 1.
' The palm portion 19 of the glove at the back may be made and usually does consist of leather or a like pliable material, and the same material is utilized to form the major portion of the thumb 20. The back portion of the glove terminates short of the outer edge or uninterrupted line of the palm, and the thumb portion 20 of the glove terminates at the point where the thumb joins the palm, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. A cloth 21, constructed ordinarily oflinkcd wire rings, is attached to the outer edge of the back section 19 of the glove and to the inner edge of the thumb portion 20 at the front, the linked or chain cloth 21 being also secured to the finger-band A, as is also the flexible back 19 at its upper edge.
The gauntlet B or wrist portion of the glove may be made of any desired material, leather being usually employed, and this gauntlet portion B is secured to the wire-cloth 21, to the lower edge of the thumb 20, and to the lower edge of the leather back 19. The gauntlet or wrist portion of the glove may be secured on the wrist in any suitable or approved manner. Usually, however, straps 22 are used in connection with buckles 23, as is particularly shown in Fig. 2.
Instead of the wire-rin g cloth 18 being employed to attach the front of the finger-band to the front of the finger-cap flat links 23 may be used, as shown in Fig. 4, and instead of the leather portion 19 at the back portion of the hand and the wire-cloth 21 at the front or palm of the hand these portions of the glove may be substituted by a band A made of metal and attached to the finger-band A through the medium of links 24, as illustrated in Fig. 5, and similar to the connection shown between the ends of the cap A and band A, (shown in Fig. 1,) the thumb portion 20 of the glove and the gauntlet-section B being attached to this metal body-band of the glove (designated as A in any desired manner.
It will be understood that the band A may have a chain connection in addition to the links 24: with the finger-band A.
The upper extremity of the thumb portion 20 of the glove has a ferrule 25 attached, the upper end whereof is inclined and convexed, representing the tip of the thumb of the hand, and at the higher or outer edge of the ferrule a flange 26 is projected upwardly, which corresponds to the thumb-nail of the hand.
VVithaglove constructed as above set forth the operation of husking may be expeditiously and conveniently carried on without the hand of the operator becoming unduly tired or unduly heated.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A husking-glove consisting of a fingercap, a finger-band, a hinged connection between the sides of the finger-band and the finger-cap, and a flexible connection between the fronts of the same, a point located on the top edge of the finger-cap, and a thumb-ferrule of rigid material and provided with a flange which extends above the upper surface of the said ferrule, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A husking-glove, consisting of a cap arranged to inclose the fingers and longer at the back than at the front, a point carried by the said cap, a band encircling the fingers below said cap, a link connection between the band and the cap at the sides thereof, a flexible connection between the front of said band and the front of said cap, and a flexible body portion attached to said band, the thumb portion whereof is provided with a ferrule of rigid material having a flange extending forth.
3. A husking-glove consisting of a fingercap constructed of a rigid material, being longer at the back than at the front and having its back perforated, a point located upon the upper edge of the finger-cap, a fingerband, a hinged connection between the sides of the finger-band and finger-cap, a flexible body-section having a hinged connection with the finger-band, being provided with a flexible thumb-section, and a ferrule attached to the upper end of the thumb portion of the glove, having its upper end inclined and closed and provided with a flange at itsouter portion extending above the top, as and for the purpose set forth.

A husking-glove consisting of a rigid cap arranged to inclose the finger and provided with a point on its top edge, a band encircling the fingers below said cap and separated therefrom but connected therewith by' links, linked wire rings flexibly connecting the front of the cap with the front of the band and a flexible body portion secured to said band and having its palm portion formed of linked wire rings, said body portion being formed with a thumb portion, and a rigid ferrule attached to said thumb portion, as set forth.
5. A husking-glove consisting of a fingercap made of a rigid material and longer at the back than at the front, a finger-band likewise constructed of a rigid material, having a hinged connection at its outer edges with the corresponding portions of the finger-cap, a flexible connection between the front of the finger-cap and the front of the finger-band, a point carried by the finger-cap, a gauntlet or wrist-section, a body-section connected with the gauntlet or wrist-section and having a hinged connection with the finger-band, the said body section being provided with a thumb portion, and a ferrule attached to the upper end of the thumb portion, havingits upper end inclined from its outer edge inwardly and convexed, and provided with a flange which extends outward beyond the higher portion of the outer end of the said ferrule, as and for the purpose specified.
