ADAM SCHEID, OF HARRISON, NEV JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE DRAPER COMPANY, OF PORTLAND, MAINE.
SPINDLE.
- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 580,722, dated April 13, 1897.
Application filed December 22, 1896. Serial No. 616,648. (No model.) i
.To all whom. t may concern.-
Be it known that l, ADAM SCI-IEID, a citizen of the United States, residing in Harrison, county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spindles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and .use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a spinning-spindle and support therefor, which latter is flexibly mounted on the spindle-rail and is easily attached and secured thereto.
The invention consists in the improved spinning-spindle, its support-locking mechanism, and in the combination and arrangements of the various parts thereof, substantially as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two views, Figure l is a front elevation of my improved spindle and its supx w of Fig. 1, illustrating the locking meehanism out of working position.
In said drawings, ais the spindle-rail, provided with the vertical hole or opening c', penetrated by the tube b, supporting the spindle c and its sleeve f and whirl g, all of usual construction. The tube b is provided above the rail with an annular flange c, resting on the elastic washer d, and is provided below the rail and below the step-bearing for the spindle c with a horizontally-arranged hole penetrated by the pin or axle 'L'. On said pin or axle is fulcrumed a yoke 7a, having the edges of its Shanks m eccentrieally curved and adapted to engage and bear against a metallic washer h, arranged on the under side of the rail and surrounding the tube b.
The yoke l.: is preferably provided with a handle n for conveniently operating the same.
When the yoke It is operated-that is to say, its eccentric shanks are worked or pressed against the metallic washer h-the tube b is drawn downward and its annular flange c pressed against the elastic washer d. The pin or axle can easily be withdrawn from the yoke k and tube b, and the latter can thus be removed from the spindle-rail a.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with the spindle-rail, of a tube penetrating said rail and loosely arranged therein, an annular flange above the rail and projecting from said tube, an elastic washer between said flange and the rail, a
metallic washer surrounding said tube and' underneath the rail, an eccentric fulcrumed on the tube and engaging said metallic washer, and a whirl-driven spindle in the tube, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The combination with the spindle-rail, of a tube penetrating said rail and loosely arranged therein, an annular iange above the rail and projecting from said tube, an elastic washer between said flange and the rail, a metallic washer surrounding said tube and underneath the rail, a pin or axle horizontally arranged in the tube and below the stepbearing, a yoke fulcrumed on said axle and having the edges of its Shanks eccentrically curved and adapted to engage the said metallic washer, and a whirl-driven spindle in the tube, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
Invtestimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of December, 1896.
ADAM SCHEID. Witnesses:
