SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 579,274, dated March 23, 1897.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CLAUDE FRANQOIS DIT EMILE LAROUE, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Pontarlier, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.

My invention has relation tobottles or other receptacles adapted to contain liquids of various kinds; and among the objects in view is to provide a bottle or receptacle of the character described which must necessarily be broken or ruptured in order to permit of the same being emptied of its contents; and my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the appended claim.

I would state that bottles of different shapes are adapted to have my invention applied thereto, and in the drawing I show the upper portion or neck of a bottle, the same being provided with an internally-projectin g shoulder or enlargement h.

H indicates the cork or stopper, which is adapted to seat within the neck above the enlargement h, the latter being adapted to prevent the stopper from being pushed down within the bottle.

I indicates a metallic cap which seats upon the upper end of the stopper and fits tightly within the neck and prevents the stopper from being removed. The cap is firmly secured to the stopper by means of a rod j, which passes through the cap and stopper and is riveted at each end. The cap may be made slightly conical or tapering, so that When forced down Within the neck it will tightly bind therein. The neck of the bottle is provided interme diate the length of the stopper with an exterior shoulder or enlargement i, at which point the neck may be broken. It Will be seen, therefore, that it is necessary for the neck of the bottle to be ruptured in order that the contents may be discharged, thus rendering it impossible to use the bottle again.

WVhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is"

A bottle or similar receptacle having an internally-projecting shoulder or enlargement h in its neck and the exterior shoulder a in combination with a stopper 11 adapted to seat against the shoulder h, a cap I seating upon the stopper and having a conical shape, and a rod j passing through the stopper and cap and securing the two together, as specified.
