Description
(No Model.)
S. M. RHONE.
PENHOLDER.
No. 518 773. Patented Mar. 16,1897.
Inventor- .RRM-M Attorney.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL M. RHONE, OF MONTGOMERY, PENNSYLVANIA.
PENHQLDER.
. SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,773, dated March 16, 1897.
Application filed July 21,1896. Serial No. 600,006. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern Beit known that I, SAMUEL M. RHONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montgomery, in the county of Lycoming and State ofPennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Penholders; and
I do declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such holder in the hand.
To these ends the novelty consists in theconstruction, combination, and arrangement 7 of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings the same figures of reference indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved penholder. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing one of the angles to which the handle may be adjusted. Fig. 3 shows the holder removed from the hinged socket in the handle, and Fig. 4 shows one of the positions of the holder when in use.
1 represents the handle, which is of ordinary shape, size, and construction.
2 is a sleeve, one end of which is secured to the handle 1, and its projecting end is formed with a longitudinal slot 3 a little less in Width than the diameter of the sleeve.
A cylindrical socket 4 is hinged on arivet 5 in the lower end of the sleeve 2 at a right angle to the slot 3, so that said socket will fold into the sleeve through the slot, the spring sides 6 6 of the sleeve on each side of ner, and this holder slips on the socket at with sufficient friction tohold it in place in whatever position it may be adjusted thereon, it being adjustable longitudinally, as well as radially, by rotating on its axis.
As shown in Fig. 1, the device may be used as an ordinary pen holder, and when the hand becomes cramped from continuous use in that position the socket and the holder may be turned outwardly at any convenient angle to the sleeve and handle and used in thevarions positions to which it is adapted, one of which is shown in Fig. 4.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A penholder comprising the handle 1, the sleeve 2 secured to one end thereof, and provided with the spring sides 6 6, in combination with the cylindrical socket at, mounted at one end in the sleeve 2 by a rivet 5, and the longitudinally and axially adjustable cylindrical holder 8 mounted on said socket, and provided withthe removable pen-point 9, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL M. RHONE.
