G. KNIERIEMEN.
- FISH HOOK BOOK.
Patented Mar. 9; 1897.
' .INVEQTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
GEORGE KNIERIEMEN, OF CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY.
FISH-HOOK BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,458, dated March 9, 1897. Application filed August 25,1896. Serial No. 603,839. (No model.)
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE KNIERIEMEN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Camden, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fish-Hook Books, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a book for carrying fish-hooks in a convenient and safe manner, the novel features of the same being pointed out in the claims that follow the specification.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the fish-hook book embodied in my invention, the same being in an opened condition. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the book in a closed condition. Fig. 3 represents a side elevation of a detached portion.
Similar letters of referenceindicate correspondingparts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a book consisting of the covers B and C, which are hinged or flexibly connected at D, so that they can be folded or opened, as indicated in the figures, said covers being provided with 1 ledges E, F, G, and H, respectively, the same being arranged transversely on said covers.
and formed of cork or other suitable buoyant material, so as to cause the book to float should it be dropped into the Water, the ledge E having a shoulder E on the rear thereof. The ledges F G H are slit or recessed in the direction of the length of the covers, as at M, it being noticed that the snoods J are inserted in the slits of the said ledges and the shanks of the hooks K are inserted in the slits L of the ledge E, the barbs of the hooks pointing toward or entering the shoulder of the ledge E, so as to be guarded thereby.
The loop ends Q of the snoods are outside of the ledge H, adjacent to the ends of the as the barbs enter or are adjacent to the lougitudinally-extendin g shoulder E of the ledge I E, while the shanks of the hooks enter the slits L, said hooks are prevented from disconnection, especially as the cover 0 contacts with the ledge E and serves to close the slits L, which receive the shanks of the hooks, ashas been stated, whereby outward motion of the hooks from the ledge E is prevented.
The ledges F G contact and close the slits thereof, while the ledge H has its slits closed by the cover B, thus preventing displacement of the snoods.
One of the covers of the book is provided elastic strap R, which is connected with one cover and adapted to embrace the other.
It will be noticed that the ledges F and G are so disposed that when the book is closed said ledges are in contact, keeping the snoods or lines into the base of the slits in said ledges,
especially near the back of the book, where said snoods or lines being bent are liable otherwise to leave the ledges. Again, the ledge H contacts with one cover and the ledge E contacts with the opposite cover, thus closing the slits of said ledges, while acting as stays, preventing the backs from being crushed in or curling on their sides.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
1. A book for fish-hooks, consisting of covers having a flexible connection and provided with ledges extending transversely thereon,
each of said ledges having slits therein, and 0 a ledge on each of said covers being adapted to contact with the opposite cover, one of said latter-ment-ioned-ledges being near the front or outer end of its cover, and the otherone of said ledges being intermediate of said first 9 5 ledge and the rear ends of the covers.
2.. A book for fish-hooks, consisting of covers having a flexible connection, and provided with ledges extending transversely thereon,
said ledges having slits thereon, and a ledge on each of said covers being in contact with opposite cover and ledges on the covers near the back of the book being adapted to con tact with each other.
3. A book for fish-hooks, consisting of the flexibly-connected covers B and C, the ledges E and F on said cover'B and the ledges G and H on said cover 0, said ledges extending parallel With the connection of said covers and being slitted, and the ledge E having a shoulder E extending longitudinally thereon, and the slits in said ledges being coverec when said book is closed.
4. In a fish-hook book, the covers B and C 10 in combination with slitted ledges on the cover 0 and the slit-ted ledge E on the cover B, said ledge E having a shoulder on the rear thereof.
GEORGE KNIERIEMEN.
