SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters `Patent No. 578,181, dated March 2, 1897.

Be it known that l, MAISRAY MITcI-IEL WRO- TEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mer Rouge, in the parish of Morehouse and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has relation to plows, and the object is to provide a plowshare with a point rigidly secured thereto without the aid of screws, bolts, and the like, and which may be instantly detached for sharpening without the use of a wrench, tool, or the like.

To this end the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the several parts of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings the same figures refer to like parts of the invention, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of the plowpoint secured to the moldboard, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same with the point detached from the moldboard.

1 is the moldboard, and it may be cast inltegral with the shoe 2, and integral with the inner side of the lnoldboard is a brace 5, formed with a recess 4, which fits snugly on the corresponding dovetail wedge-shaped tongue 3, cast integral with the plow-point 6.

The tongue 3 is provided with an integral stud 7, on which is pivoted a clamping-arm 8, secured thereto by a pin 9, and the free end of this arm 8 is formed wit-h a lug 10, having an inclined face 12.

The rear end of the brace 5 is formed with an arc-shaped inclined face 13, formed eccentric with the stud 7. When the clampingarm 8 is swung around to engage the face 13 of the shoe 2, as shown in Fig. 1, the parts are rigidly secured together.

The forward end of the shoe 2 where itjoins the point 6 is provided with a female dovetail recess l5, into which an integral correspondingly-shaped tongue 16 on the point 6 enters when said point is secured to the plow proper. 5o

To loosen the point 6 from the plow for the purpose of sharpening it or to replace a worn one, it is only necessary to knock the arm 8 up, when the point can be instantly withdrawn, and when replaced by driving the clamp down again the point is practically secured to the shoe -by means of the dovetail recesses and tongues as rigidly as if the point and shoe were cast in one solid piece.

Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, Is- 7o A plow, the point of which is provided with' a rectangular dovetail tongue 16 and a wedgeshaped dovetail tongue 3, provided with an integral stud 7, on which is mounteda pivoted clamping-arm 8, in combination with arnoldboard having an integral brace 5 having a Wedge-shaped dovetail recess 4, and a shoe provided with a rectangular dovetail recess 15, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
