SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,039, dated March 2, 1897. Application filed January t, 1896. Serial No. 574,849. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OHAUNOEY SEYMOUR KELLOGG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of McOomb, in the county of Pike and State of Mississippi, have invented certain'new and useful Improvements in Mucilage-Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to mucilage-bottles; and the objects thereof are to provide an improvement in this class of devices whereby the mucilage bottle or receptacle is provided with a removable cap or cover through which a spiral passage is formed which is adapted to receive the spiral handle of a mucilagebrush, whereby the mucilage-brush may be raised or lowered within the bottle or receptacle by simply turning the handle thereof, a further object being to provide a mucilage bottle or receptacle with an improved base or support; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure l is a perspective view of one form of my improved mucilage bottle or receptacle; Fig. 2, a similar view of a modification; and Fig. 3, a transverse vertical section of the form of construction shown in Fig. 2, showing also the mucilage-brush in position therein.

In the practice of my invention I provide abottle or receptacle A, which may be of any desired form, and the upper portion of which is provided With an annular outwardly-directed bead or shoulder B, and I also provide a removable cap or cover D, having a depending flange or rim (1, which is adapted to rest upon the annular bead or shoulder B, and the cap or ooverD is provided with a central projection 01 in which is formed a spiral passage dand I also provide a brush E, having a spiral handle F and provided at its upper end with a head G, which may be of any desired form. 1

The spiral handle F is passed through a spiral passage (1 in the cap or cover D, and the brush E is afterward connected therewith, and by simply turning the spiral handle F by means of the head G the position of the brush within the bottle or receptacle A may be raised or lowered, and said brush may thus always be kept within the mucilage and will not become dry and hard and rendered useless, as frequently occurs in this class of devices.

In the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the bottle or receptacle is provided with a base H, which is formed integral therewith; but in the construction shown in Fig. 1 I provide a wire cage or frame therefor, comprising a ring K, which is adapted to inclose the bottle or receptacle below the annular head or shoulder B, and depending and outwardlydirected side arms or braces L, the lower ends of which are inwardly directed, as shown at M, and provided with flat supports or holders m, which are adapted to receive the lower end of the bottle or receptacle, and in this form of construction the lower end of the bottle or receptacle is preferably contracted and smaller in cross-section than the upper end thereof. My invention, however, is not limited to the form of the bottle or receptacle or to the base or support connected therewith, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such alterations therein and modifications thereof as fairly come within the scope of the invention.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination with a mucilage-bottle A, provided with a suitable support and having a cover provided with a depending annular flange adapted to inclose the neck of the bottle, said cover having formed in the central portion thereof an extension in which is formed a hole, of a wireF, provided with a spiral having a brush attached to one end thereof, the other end being provided with an integrally-formed handle, substantially as shown and described.
