Description

(No Model.) I H. GBPRORER.
VAPUR BURNER,-
No 577,98Q. Patented Mar. 2,1897.
' ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES ATENT FFICE.
HENRY GEFRORER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
VAPOR-BU RN ER.
- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 577,980, dated March 2, 1897.
Application filed October 16, 1893. Serial No. 488,216. (No model.)
T0 00% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY GEFRORER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Vapor-Burners, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a vapor-burner having a deflector on the tip thereof for highly heating the adjacent portions of the burner and causing the vaporization of the oil or bydrocarbon fluid in a thorough and effective manner, the construction of parts being hereinafter set forth.
Figures 1 and 2 represent side elevations of a vapor-burner'embodying my invention. Fig. 3 represents a vertical section thereof on line 00 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the supply-pipe, which is connected with the neck A of the tube B, which extends downwardly therefrom. Joining the bottom of the said tube B and substantially parallel therewith is the tube 0, which extends upwardly therefrom and has at its top and adjacent to the said neck A the tip D, with which is cast or otherwise connected the deflector-plate E, which rises from the same at the side thereof, so as to be adjacent to the slit insaid tip.
At the base of the flat vertical plate E is a flange F, which forms an angle with the same, extending outwardly from the lower edge of the opposite sides of the slit or opening in the tip.
The base of the burner is provided with'the cup G, adapted to contain oil for primarily heating the pipes B and O, and with the valve H for evident purposes.
As the tube B requires to be bored out in two directions the openings which permit the introduction of a proper tool for such purpose are afterward closed by theplugs J.
A single piece or casting forms the tubes B and C, so that the part or tube B is more readily heated from the part or tube 0. The tube 0 extends below the tube B, and the seat of said plate, whereby it is'highly heated, and
as the flame impinges downwardly against the flange F the latter is also highly heated, whereby the adjacent portions of the tubes B and O are likewise heated, and thus the vaporization of the oil whenit enters the neck A and tube B is effected, the vaporization being further increased owing to the additional heating-surface presented by the tube 0 and tip.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The supply-pipe Awith the neck A, the tube B extending downwardly, froni said neck, the tube 0, parallel with said tube B and j oining the bottom thereof, the tip D at the top of said tube 0, and the flat deflector E which latter rises from the side of the latter and is formed with the flange F extending laterally from the lower edges'of the opening in the tip, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. The supply-pipe A, the neck A, the pipe B, extending downwardly from said neck, the pipe 0 parallel with said pipe B and joining the bottom thereof, the tip D on said pipe 0,
the cup G and valve H, the, tip D at the top of said pipe 0, the deflector-plate E connected with said tip and rising partly above the same, and the flange F integral with and extending at a right angle from said deflector on opposite sides of the said tip at the base of the opening therein, the parts named being combined substantially as described, forming an improvement in vapor-burners.
HENRY GEFRORER. Witnesses:
JOHN A. WIEDERSHEIM, R. H. GRAESER.
Having thus described my invention, what
