Description

(No Model.)
R. LIEBMANN.
PICTURE FRAME.-
Patented Feb. 23, 1897.
RUDOLPH LIEBMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PICTU RE-FRAM E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 577,660, dated February 23, 1897.
Application filed December 8, 1896- Serial No. 614,865. (No model.)
T0 cir/ZZ whom t may con/cern:
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH LIEBMANN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture- Frames, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention has reference to improvements in picture-frames, and especially to miniature circular frames.
It has for its objects, first, to facilitate the manufacture of such frames, and, secondly, to permit the picture to be readily placed in an upright position regardless of the position in which the picture has been inserted into the frame.
To this end my invention consists, essentially, in a frame provided with a rotatable back having a supporting or suspending device, so that said back and consequently the supporting or suspending device can be turned to adjust its position with respect to the picture.
The nature of my invention will best be understood when described in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a perspective view of a picture-frame embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear view. Fig. 3 is avertical section. Fig. 4 is a side view showing the supporting-bracket turned upwardly to form a suspension device. Figs. 5, 6, and 7 are detached face views of the component parts of the frame.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, numeral l designates an open circular frame made of sheet metal or other suitable material and adapted for the reception of a picture 2 and a circular bezel 3, and preferably also for a glass or a celluloid lm 4 and a filling 5. The bezel 3 is provided with a circular outwardly-recessed seat 6, into which is rotatively iitted a back 7. In the present instance I have attached to the back 7 a hinged bracket Sfor supporting the frame either in the manner of an easel, Fig. 3, or for suspending the same in the usual manner. The bracket is preferably made of wire with laterally-projecting terminals mounted in ears 9 9, formed by piercing and drawing the metal of the back out` wardly.
It is of course to be understood that the frame may be provided either with a permanent hanger or with a permanent bracket, it not being essential that a convertible device be used.
It will now be readily understood that after the frame is closed in the die the bracket can be turned relatively to the frame and the picture thus brought into an upright position. Consequently no attention need be paid to the position in which the picture is originally placed into the frame and a great saving in the time of manufacture is eifected.
What I claim as new isl. A picture-frame provided with a rotatable back provided with a supporting or suspending device, substantially as described.
2. 'The combination with an open frame, of a bezel attached to said frame a-nd provided with a circular seat, a back rotatively mounted in said bezel, and a supporting or suspendingv device attached to said back, substantiallyas described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 2d day of December, 1896.
. RUDOLPH LIEBMANN.
