SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 577,023, dated February 16, 1897.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the bracket and its support. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bracketsupport. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the outer end of the outer arm of the bracket. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the lamp-rest. Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the mechanism for gripping the base of the lamp.
The bracket consists of a number of arms 1 1, pivoted together at their ends. The bracket-support consists of the plate 2, which is secured to the under side of the keyboard of the piano. The plate 2 is provided with the vertical section 3, and said section in turn is provided with the two pivotal points 4 4. The inner end of the inner arm 1 of the bracket is provided with two perforated connected portions. The perforations of said portions are adapted to receive the pivotal points 4 4 of the support.
The bracket may be removed from the support by lifting the bracket and thus disengaging the perforated portions thereof from the points 4 4. The outer end of the outer arm of the bracket is provided with a perforation 5. Said perforation receives the perpendicular rod 6, and at the upper end of said rod 6 the plate 7 is secured. Said plate 7 in turn is secured to the under side of the lamprest 8.
The lamp-rest is provided with the sliding grippers 9 9. The horizontal section of each perforation l0.
rod 6, and said rod serves as a guide for the said grippers. The plate 7 is provided with the set-screw 11, having thumb-piece 12. Said set-screw 11 passes through the perforations 10 of the two grippers 9 9. By operating the thun1b-piece 12 the said grippers may be secured in a desired position. Fig. 1 shows the grippers retaining the base of a lamp on the lamp-rest.
The perforation 5 in the outer end of the bracket is provided with a shifting section 13. Said section has the rearwardly-extending flanges 14 14, which play in suitable recesses cut in the bracket-arm. The set-screw 15 passes through the bracket-arm and engages at its inner end the shifting section 13. Thus the said section 13 may be forced against the rod 6 and firmly impinge the same in the perforation 5 without marring the finish of the said rod. The said section is also advantageous in that it firmly holds the rod in place and there is no possibility for the rod to slip down.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A lamp-bracket having a perpendicular rod, a lamp-rest secured at the upper end of the rod, sliding grippers located onsaid rest, said grippers having elongated perforations, said rod passing through said perforations, a setscrew fixed to the rest at one side of said rod and passing through said elongated perforations, said set-screw adapted to retain the grippers in the desired position, the outer ends of the grippers adapted to engage the base of the lamp and retain the same on the rest, the perpendicular rod and the set-screw forming guides for the grippers and adapted to prevent the grippers from getting out of alinement with each other.
