Be it known that I, THOMAS J. PETERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Miami, in the county of Dade and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pumps; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. d

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in punps; and ithas for its objects, among others, to provide a simple and cheap attachnent to a pump by which the pump may be primed when desired.

It comprises a tank or receptacle so mounted on the pump-stock that it may be inverted and the water therein allowed to flow into the pump to prime it, after which the tank or receptacle returns to its nornal position and is refilled as the water is pumped from the Well by the pump.

Other objects and advantages of the invention Will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claims.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification,;and in which-- Figure 1 is an elevation of apump provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a section with the tank inverted. Fig. 3 is a crosssection. Fig. l is a perspective View of the parts constituting the invention, separated.

Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a band designed to embrace the pump-stock and having the perforations a in its ears a', through which is designed to pass the bolt B, which serves, together with the nut O on the end of the same, to hold the clamp or band around the stock. The band or clamp is provided with a horizontal passage D, through which is designed to be passed the short tube E, which has an enlarged head d at one end and the other end screw-threaded, as seen at E'.

the opening in the band with its head located within the band, and then the latter is se- G, which may be of any desired capacity, is screwed onto the threaded end of the tube, the tank having a threaded opening for that purpose. The tank is filled with water, and when the pump needs priming all that it is necessary to do is to turn the tank bottom side up and the water therein runs into the pump, and when the latter has been primed the tank is returned to its normal position and is refilled with water from the pump as the latter is operated. The tank is provided with a removable bottom Which can be easily removed for the purpose of cleaning the same.

It will be understood that the short tube or pipe is free to turn, but cannot become displaced endwise, and When the tank has been inverted and the pump prim ed it will automatically return to its normal position when it is released from the hand.

Modifications in detail may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

lVhat is claimed as new is- V 1. The combination With a pump, of a clam p secured thereto, and a tank or receptacle rotatably mounted on said clamp and having communication with the interior of the pump, as set forth.

2. A pump attachment comprisin g aclamp, a tube mounted therein for rotation and a tank mounted on the outer end of said tube, substantially as and for the purposespecified.

3. A pump attachment comprising a clamp through an opening in the clamp and having an enlarged head and its other -end screwthreaded, and a receptacle mounted on the threaded end of the said tube, all substantially as shown and described.
