(No Model.) W. H. LAMBERT 81; G. O. DEEMS.
PUMP. V No. 274,791. P a-tented Mar.27,1883.
. @wm Z/MW UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. LAMBERT AND GILBERT DEEMS, OF ALTON, OHIO.
PU P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 274,791, dated March 27, 1883.
Application filed September 19,1882. (No model.)
1'0 all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that we, WILLIAM H. LAMBERT and GILBERT O. DEEMs, citizens of the United States, residing at Alton, Franklin county, Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a cheap, simple, and efficient force-pump, in which the metallic portions of the pump shall not be submerged in the water.
To such end our invention consists in the combination, with a wooden stock, of a metal cap fitted in the upper end of said stock, a plunger-rod passing through the metal cap, and a stock-pipe leading from the cap and connected withan air-chamber provided with a discharge-spout, as hereina-lter more fully described.
The figure is a longitudinal vertical section of the pump. w
A indicates the wooden stock, which is formed with a central bore adapted to receive an ordinary valved plunger, B. The plungerrod 0, which connects in any suitable way.
i with a bail, (J, on the plunger, works through the metal cap-box D, and is attached at its upper end to a handle, E, which is pivoted in the upper end of an ordinary wooden standard, F, above the platform. The remaining portions of the pump mechanism consist of the metal stock-pipe G, leading upwardly from the caphox, and connecting at its upper end with an air-chamber in the head H, which is provided with a discharge-spout I. The water is lifted by the plunger into the cap-box and 'forced from the same up through the stockpipe into the air-chamber, from which it will be expelled through the spout. The metal cap-box is detachably fitted in the upper end of the wooden stock at a point above the wa-.
ter-line, so that the said metal cap-box will the metal cap D, detachably fitted in the up-- per end of the said stock, the plunger-rod passing through the metal cap and the stockpipe leading up from the cap and connected with an air-chamber provided with a discharge-spout, substantially as described.
, In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
