COMBINED CURTAIN- PATENT OFFICE.
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
POLE AND BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 576,637, dated February 9, 1897.
Application filed November 16, 1896. Serial No. 612,299. (No model.) 7
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. V AN NOTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the coun ty of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Curtain-Pole and Bracket; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in curtainpoles and brackets; and it is the aim of my invention to produce a combination device of this nature which will admit of the ready adjustment and removal of the pole.
A further and important part of my invention resides in the novel means forholding the bracket to the window, whereby the bracket is removably held to the casing or to a recessed nail secured to the casing and held in place by means of a thumb-screw.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists, further, in the novel construction, combination, and adaptation of the parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which drawings simithroughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pole and bracket as secured in place to the casing of a window. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through one of the brackets in a vertical plane. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view of a bracket at opposite end of the pole.
Reference now being had to the details of the construction of the invention, A designates a bracket which is horizontally apertured for a suitable distance, as at a, which is provided to receive one end of the pole B. At right angles to the said aperture or hole a is another hole 0, opening into the former, and
is designed to receive the pin or screw, one
end of which pin is sharpened, as seen at d, and this point may be provided with screwthreads, as desired, and has an annular recess D near its opposite end or head, into which recess the end of a thumb-screw F is adapted to rest when the pin D is held in the bracket, thus locking the pole securely to the bracket. The opposite end of the pole is held in an aperture c in the bracket E, which bracket E is held to the windowcasin g by means of a screwthreaded pin G.
In applying the pole to the brackets the brackets are supported on the screws or pins D and G, one end of the pole inserted in the aperture or hole e in bracket E and the opposite end inserted in the hole a in bracket A, and the thumb-screw F screwed into the recess in screw D, thus securely locking the end of the said screw to the bracket containing the same. It will thus be seen that the pole ends may be easily and quickly detached, while the screws may be left in the casing.
If desired, a thumb-screw F may be carried in the bracket E, with the inner end of the said screw adapted to bear against the end of the pole and hold the latter securely in position. The said thumb-screw, if desired, may be placed on the under side of the bracket or at any other convenient location whereby the end of the screw may be made to engage with the end of the pole.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
. A curtain-poleand brackets comprising the pole B, the bracket E having a slot to receive one end of said pole, combined with the bracket 0 slotted to receive the other end of the pole, and a pin D having an annular groove about its head, said pin designed to be held in a hole in the bracket O, and a thumb-screw F in the bracket which looks the latter to the said grooved pin, substantially as shown and described. a
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES H.- VAN NOTE.
