SASH LOCK AND LIFT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 576,526, dated February 2, 1897. Application filed December 26, 1895- Serial No. 573,387. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, FRANK CARSON and JOHN B. PATERSON, citizens of the United States, residing at San Francisco, county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and useful Combination Burglar-Proof Sash Lock and Lift, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to a combination burglar-proof sash lock and lift consisting of a slotted rod, the upper end of which is securely fastened to the top part of the upper sash and extends downward through a bracket attached to the lower sash, which contains .a spring in a pocket on one side of the same for forcing the slots in the rod outward, so as to catch upon the outer portion of bracket for supporting and fastening the sash in place when either the upper or lower sash of window is adjusted to any desired opening by lowering or raising the same, and also having on the lower end of said rod a tongue-piece that may be turned so as to slide into a groove in a lock-bracket attached to the window-casing, thereby firmly securing and locking said sash, so that it is impossible to raise or lower either half of the window.

The object of our invention being to provide a simple and perfectly secure locking device for a window-sash, we attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of window, partly broken, showing the device locked in position with upper sash partly down. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail side elevation, partly in section, of our device in locked position. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail front elevation of spring-catch in lower sash. Fig. 4 is a top plan of lock-bracket, showing rod in crosssection through one of the grooves; Fig. 5, a front elevation of upper bracket-support to rod.

What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

In a combination sash lock andlift, the combination of the'slotted supporting-rod D, revolubly seated in the bracket, extending from the upper sash; with the spring-bracket at the top of lower sash through which the rod passes, adapted to operate upon spring inclosed in bracket, when rod is turned, so as, to force the slots upon edge of bracket for the adjustment of sash, and the grooved bracket upon thewindow-casing, into which tonguepiece on lower end of the rod is turned to lock the sash in place, substantially as herein described and set forth.

Correction in Letters Patent No. 576,526.

It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 576,526, granted February 2, 1897, upon the application of Frank Carson and John B. Patterson, of San Francisco, California, for an improvement in Sash Locks and Lifts, an error appears requiring correction, as follows: In the grant it is stated that said Carson has assigned one-half of his right, title, and interest to Guy Lathrop, Whereas it should have been stated that he had assigned one-half of the entire interest to said party; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Ofiice.
