Description

(NoModeL) J. HERNANDEZ. I
CUTTING ATTACHMENT POR'MUZZLBS OF REVOLVERS. No. 575,949. [Patented Jan. 26, I897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J I'AN HERNANDEZ, OF SAN LUIS POTOSI, MEXICO.
CUTTING ATTACHMENT FOR MUZZLES OF REVOLVERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,949, dated January 26, 1897.
Application filed April 13, 1896. Serial No. 587,310. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JUAN HERNANDEZ, a citizen of Mexico, residing at San Luis Potosi, in the State of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Firearms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in firearms; and it consists in the application to a pistol or revolver of a detachable blade, as hereinafter described and claimed, the object of which is to increase the efficiency of such a weapon.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a revolver with my improvement attached Fig. 2, a view in detail of said improvement, and Fig. 3 a sectional detail of end of pistol-barrel and knifering.
Referring to the drawings, A design ates the barrel of a revolver or pistol to which the attachment constituting my invention is applied, and for this purpose the barrel A is provided at its outer discharge end with an exterior screw-thread. The attached weapon consists of a knife having a long shank D, provided at its outer end with a ring E, which ring is interiorly threaded to adapt it to be screwed onto the threaded end of the barrel A. To this ring is secured, or it may be made integral therewith, a blade F. This blade is preferably made in the form shown, having three edged ribs 9 of lancet form, each of which is about an inch and a half long and terminating in a dagger-point. The shank D is provided with a longitudinal rib h, which extends from the front end of the ring E to nearly the opposite end of the shank, and which rib is provided with an edge d. The shank, its rib, the ring, and the blade or blades may be all cast in one piece or made separately and then secured together in any desired manner. The shank D of the knife may be secured to the barrel of the pistol or revolver by a screw, as shown at 072.
To attach the knife to the revolver, the ring E of the knife is placed on the end of the barrel, so that the shank D will be opposite the place where it is to be secured to the pistol, and the ring and shank are then turned around until the latter is brought into its position of attachment, where it is then secured by the screw 17:. By this rotation of the knife the screw-threads of the ring are made to engage with the threaded end of the barrel, and the knife is thus securely fastened in place.
By this construction a knife with several blades at'its end and one along the Side is obtained, which converts the pistol or revolver into a powerful weapon for fighting at close quarters, especially at a time when the pistol having been discharged no time is given for reloading. The sharp rib extending along the side of the shank prevents the weapon from being grasped and wrenched from the hand of the one who is using it.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A cutting attachment for a revolver consisting of a knife having a shank extending along the barrel of the revolver, a cutting edge on said shank, means at the inner end of said shank for securing the same to the revolver, said shank provided on its outer end with a screw-threaded ring, corresponding screwthreads on the outer end of said barrel to engage said ring, and a blade formed on and extending from said ring and having a plurality of cutting edges, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JUAN HERNANDEZ.
