ARRANGEMENT FOR GLUING LEDGES OR MOLDINGS TO CUPBOARDS OR WARDROBES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,909, dated January 26, 1897.

' moldings; and the object of the same is to facilitate the gluing or nailing together of the moldings, ledges, or like parts of closets,wardrobes, cupboards, and such pieces of furniture; and the invention consists of an angular frame which is provided with a guide-bar coincident with the bisecting line of an angle of the frame, a screw-threaded spindle provided with a handle and guided in an opening in said angle parallel with said guide-bar and the axis of the same. being coincident with the bisecting line of the angle of the frame, an angular clamping-jaw engaged by the end of said screw-threaded spindle and guided in said guide-bar, elongated settingscrews guided in screw-threaded openings in the adjacent side portions of the frame, slides guided in slots or openings in the side portions of the frame at right angles to the setting-screws, and screws passing through screw-threaded openings in the outer ends of said slides, as will be fully described hereinafter and'finally pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of our mitering-tool for moldings. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a top view thereof.

a represents a suitable frame which has three sides, so that a three-sided angular frame is provided. Coincident with the bisecting line of the angle a of the frame is arranged a guide-bar b, in which is guided a V-shaped clamping-jaw d, formed on a right angle and which is actuated by means of a screw-threaded spindle I), having a suitable handle, the axis of which coincides with the bisectin g line of the angle a of the frame, and also with the angle of junction of the parts of the molding which are to be mitered. Guided through the adjacent side portions of the frame Ct at each side of its angle a are three setting-screws ff f that are arranged in the same or approximately the same plane as the screw-threaded spindle b and its a11- gular clamping-jaw d. Slots or openings g, g, g g and g are formed in the adjacent side portions of the frame a at right angles to the screw-threaded, openings through which the setting-screws ff f pass, so as to guide at right angles to the plane of said settingscrews a series of slides h, h, 7L2, its, and 71 These slides carry at their outer ends, in suitable screw-threaded openings of the same, settingscrews t', which may be shifted to or from the frame C6 by the adjustment of said slides, if required. Each of the setting-screws is provided with a suitable handle portion for the purpose of turning the same, so as to ad just them inwardly or outwardly.
When using the mitering-tool, it is set first against one of the ends of the cupboard or other article of furniture. The principal molding which is to be applied to the article of furniture is then covered on one side with glue and applied with its glued side against the cupboard and there held until dry through the action of the angular clamping-j aw d and the conjoint action of the setting-screws f f f For the purpose of fixing the strips or ledges which are to be glued to the article of furniture below the main molding the settingscrews c, which are mounted on the slides h, h, 77. 71 and h, are used. 7
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a mitering-tool, the combination of an angular guide-frame provided with slots or openings, slides guided in said openings transversely of the frame, setting-screws 7; arranged in the outer ends of said slides, a clamping-jaw, means for guiding the same, a screw-threaded spindle passing through the angle of said frame and actuating the said clamping 7 jaw, and setting-screws passing through the side portions of the frame at right angles to the slides, substantially as set forth.
