Description

(NoModeL) s J ADAMS SHOE LACE FASTENER- No. 575,682.. Patented Jan. 2-6, 18 97.
mmvron Y WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL J. ADAMS, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
SHOE-LACE FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,682, dated January 26, 1897.
Application filed September 3,1895. Serial No. 561,236. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUELJ. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Shoe-Lace Fasteners; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to shoe-lace fastenings; and its object is to provide convenient means for fastening the loose ends of shoelaces to prevent them from untying and unlacing.
My invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of a ladys shoe,-showing the manner of perforating the top and lacing the loose ends of the strings. Fig. 2 is a view showing my invention applied to corset-lacings.
In the drawings, A represents the top of a shoe, and A the body of a corset.
a a are eyelets in the top of the shoe, the line of the eyelets running at right angles to the main lacing. The only change made in the shoe is to add these eyelets, the lacingstrings used in connection with them being such as are commonly used. If necessary,
longer laces can be used, with more eyelets than shown, although the lacing shown I find sufficient.
In utilizing the eyelets to fasten the laces I prefer to use the manner of tying shown, which consists of an ordinary double-bow knot, from which the loose ends are taken and passed inside of the shoe-top to the first eyelet, then out through it and the knot, then again back to the inside through the second eyelet. This brings the end of the lace inside of the shoe and holds the bow extended along and close to the outside of the top.
In fastening the corset-laces I use substantially the form described for fastening shoelaces.
What I claim is- A shoe provided with a front opening, a double lace for the flaps of said opening, two or more eyelets in a line along the top of each of the flaps so arranged that when the ends of said lace are tied with a double-bow knot the free ends of the lace may be passed inside of the flaps, then out through the loops, then back to the inside to secure the loops in position, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL J. ADAMS. \Vitnesses:
