Description

(NbModeLY I H'. PRIGTIONAL CONTROL NO. 575,016.
R. TOWNE, I LING DEVICE FOR SGREWHOISTS.
Patented-Jan. 12, 1897.
-UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
HENRY R. TOWNE, OF STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE YALE dc TOWNE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
FRICTIONAL CONTROLLING DEVICE FOR SCREW-HOISTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 575,016, dated January 12, 1897.
Application filed May 22, 1894. Serial No- 512,106. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY R. TOWNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stamford, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Frictional Controlling Devices for Screw-Hoists, of which the folv lowing specification, taken in connection with in the lower part of the casing 4. and provided on its projecting end with a power-wheel, which is not shown.
5 is a friction-block seated in a recess or opening 6, formed in the casing 4 adjacent to a face of the worm-wheel l.
7 is the adj usting-screw, working in a screwthreaded opening which is tapped through the casing 4. into the opening or recess 6 and is adapted to bear against an interposed spring 8.
9 is a clamping-nut for holding the adj usting-screw 7 in any desired adjusted position.
It will be observed that by means of the screw 7 the pressure of the friction-block 5 upon the face of the worm-wheel 1 can be regulated at will to control the action of the hoist.
Having thus fully described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A screw-hoist comprising a worm-wheel having gudgeons 2, a worm-shaft 3, a casing 4 in which the gudgeons are journaled, having an opening 6, a friction-block 5 mounted in the opening, an adjusting-screw 7 Working through the casing, a spring 8 interposed between the block and the screw, and a clamping-nut 9, for locking the screw; substantially as described.
HENRY R. TOWVNE.
